I went with 73 Million for Eternals. Could have been a good chunk more with great reviews. |

It might not be THAT harsh since the only new openers are Clifford and Belfast. It will take a hit for sure but little new competition will help, as will not being available for streaming. Also maybe audiences will like it more than critics.

I heard it's expanding to 1,400 theaters this weekend so it's honestly insane it's not opening here considering some of the other movies we get. The amount of theaters it was in last weekend would normally be more than enough to open here. We got Lamb in its second weekend. We got Nine Days in 443 theaters. I assume we'll finally get FD next weekend. I can't say I'm excited for it or anything. Anderson is hit or miss with me and this doesn't look as good as his others. But I'm still interested.

I’m most looking forward to Spencer. Plus, I still need to catch up with French Dispatch and Antlers.
I’ll see Eternals, but I’ve honestly cooled off on the whole thing, even pre-RT scores, whereas at one point in time, I was more hyped about the idea of this film than Black Widow and Shang-Chi. The marketing hasn’t done it any favors IMO. Still, casual moviegoers will automatically eat up anything Marvel-related, so my prediction is clearly $60 mil or more. |

If "Black Widow" can open to 80 million with the streaming option and less people vaccinated, then "Eternals" can do it too.
Maybe the 157-minute running time and the bad reviews will scare some people off, but it's still a big Marvel movie! |

I think the interesting factor with Eternals is this will now be a test of how invested audiences actually are in the future of the MCU. With lukewarm reviews and trailers not stirring up much excitement, this is the first “roadbump” in the franchise that hasn’t got the quality assurance or top-tier named character recognition.
I think a major factor in the Marvel movie success is that they’ve proven to be reliably quality for mainstream audiences, so going in to the weekend with the narrative hanging over the film that this is the “misfire”, it’ll be interesting to see if audiences opt to skip it, or catch up with it on streaming later, or if the MCU really has the stopping power that audience genuinely can’t get enough of it regardless of dips in quality. There’s also the factor of saturation, with this being the 6th Marvel product (7th if we count Venom) in the year, this may be the one to break the camels back. I hope it does well, and smashes expectations. If nothing else beyond Zhou herself deserving a big success to her name and a few of the knee jerk reactions to the content in the Eternals deserving to be shooed off. |
