Default Dragon's Lair: The Movie?

How come it doesn't exist? The interactive game-movies look beautiful, especially the trailers I've seen on PS3 (HD Remasters, I'd say).

I really hope they'll make one 'cause seeing that, made me want to search and watch.. except there isn't one so far.

Sorry if this is the wrong section to post.

The animation was done by Don Bluth.

DL was a laserdisc based video game released in 1983. See section FILM:

Thank you.

Now I see there's a live action movie in the works, sigh, I would have preferred the games turned to a full feature length instead.

Mr. Bluth is one of a kind and here's hoping he makes an animated movie, still.

LOL, do you think the modern rabid feminists would allow Princess Daphne as she was be portrayed in today's world?

Hand-drawn animation is box office poison these days (sadly).

How would anyone know? Disney hasn't made one in 10 years. I think a lot of old-fashioned properties like Addams Family would do better box office if hand-drawn. There's no nostalgia factor when they're done up with CGI.

I agree that hand-drawn animation has a nostalgic fanbase, but the last time Disney tried to bring back the old magic (Princess & The Frog), the movie tanked, despite positive reviews. Meanwhile, a year later, Tangled raked it in.

Disney knows which side of the bread is being buttered. I wish that hand-drawn animation would become "retro-cool" like vinyl and there'd be a second renaissance like back in the 90s, but no one knows how to do it anymore, and no studio wants to invest $100 million or more on something that audiences think is "old-fashioned" and quaint. Don Bluth's Titan: A.E. tanked so badly it bankrupted Fox's animation studio.

That has everything to do with the concept, characters and script. A 2D Tangled would have blown away a CGI The Princess and the Frog in box office too. Don Bluth has had a checkered history at the box office with all his films. And it's clear Titan A.E. as a story had zero want-to-see factor. Sci-fi and fantasy animation has always had major problems at the box office.

Yep. Budget of Princess was $105 million compared to Tangled at $260 million. They never would've given Princess a high enough budget to be a CGI movie because they knew the material had limited consumer appeal. The consumer doesn't think in terms of animation style, they think in terms of what story and characters appeal to them.

However, the animation looks like a Cartoon Network show (by Hanna-Barbera, after all) than a Don Bluth production so in terms of quality... It's different.

It's not exactly done by Hanna-Barbera. It was a Ruby-Spears Productions series. They were founded as a competitor to Hanna-Barbera in 1977. In 1981, they were bought by Taft Broadcasting, who also owned Hanna-Barbera, but continued operating independently. Hanna-Barbera was sold to Turner in 1991, and it appears all the existing Ruby-Spears cartoons were sold off at the same time. That may be when it was decided to package all of the Ruby-Spears cartoons under the Hanna-Barbera label.

Don't really care about a live action version but I do wish Don Bluth did an animated movie back in the day.

There's this DVD boxset:

It allows you to watch it as a movie, but it feels disconnected because of the actions required by the viewer/player.

Plus, it looks pretty bad compared to the HD Remaster.
