Was there a demand for this movie? Everyone I know thought both movies were forgettable.
The box office take is pretty good though: The Da Vinci Code - $760M on $125M budget Angels & Demons - $490M on $150M budget Either my circle of friends is way off and this movie will make a ton of money, or it has been too long and the public interest has wained. Was the book reviewed well? |

goddamn Sony, they make me not want to watch this in the theater but just wait for the UHD - the standard theatrical DCP is 2K while imdb denotes this:
ARRIRAW (3.4K) (source format) Digital Intermediate (4K) (master format) Redcode RAW (6K) (source format) really Sony, really ?? |

OK class, now everyone say it together.... ![]() It had a 2K DCP because that's what the DI is. Inferno had an IMAX DMR blow up which is where the erroneous 4K DI comes from. As said in the 4K movies thread, there is ZERO information that backs up the 4K claim on IMDb. Sony's own 4K website does not list it at all. Also, I have not seen any interviews/articles from the production team talking up 4K, which they always do if it had a 4K workflow. Last edited by RealorFake4K; 10-25-2016 at 06:56 AM. |

Saw the movie on Saturday, clearly the best one yet. I am disappointed that they changed the ending from the book, as that was really a high point in the book. Other than that, it was a very good adoption of the book, and a really entertaining movie.
I hope this does well so they find the will to do The Lost Symbol, and maybe even some of the other Dan Brown books |

Sony has given the other Dan Brown movies the 4K treatment, and with no 3D here AND an IMAX release, I find it hard to believe that this one wouldn't receive a 4K DI either. Just doesn't make sense.
Will be seeing this in Laser IMAX on Monday on an enormous screen, so if it's 2K I'll be disappointed. You can definitely see the difference when the screen's that big. |

Hopefully they utilize a 4K DI for the BD and UHD. It's Sony, so I imagine they will. I was under the impression that Laser IMAX venues were getting a 4K DCP, hopefully that's still the case. Not tryna watch 2K content on a six-story screen...

This movie doesn't even have a 3D release that would explain the "reduction" to 2K resolution |

Sony, well everyone for that matter is so entrenched in 2K, that it it seems pointless to release anything in so called 4K - if it's all 2K workflow in the first place. Cinema application and home theater advances are apparently not mutually exclusive or on the same page. |

For what it's worth I saw the movie on one of the biggest screens worldwide in 2K resolution and Inferno was visually incredible. Florence and Venice look amazing

They can always go back and make a new master for home release from the 3.4K and 6K files. 'The Martian' did something similar. This is not a tentpole for Sony, to me it looks like a quick 'nostalgia' test to see if it makes a boatload of money like the other two; for ½ the price. "Will the audience notice or care?"
IMAX literally calls their conversion process a 'blowup'. |

I agree with you, this is not a big Sony title and the budget confirms it: 75M$ vs 150M $ for the first 2 movies |
