Recording & HDMI ? - Blu-ray Forum

Is there something about HDMI that doesn't allow stero recording? My HD cable box and PS3 are hooked up to the receiver with HDMI and I can't record anything from those sources to minidisc.

Well, that is what HDCP is all about. Since you can transport lossless digital audio and digital video over HDMI the studios wanted to make sure you don't rip it and share it.

Seems like you ought to be able to get downrezed/downmixed stereo. Oh well.

If I run L/R audio from the hd cable box and PS3 to some inputs on my receiver will I be able to record?

You mean analog? Yes, that should work. Anyway, the analog outs of the receiver should work in any case. Did you run an optical cable to your Minidisc?

Minidisc deck has analog in/out and toslink in (I've got a 300 disc CD running to the toslink in on the MD).

Here is what I have now...

HD Cable Box > HDMI > AVR
PS3 > HDMI > AVR
Minidisc > analog > AVR
AVR > analog > Minidisc

So if you're running analog to your Minidisc you should be getting sound no matter what. Sorry, don't know what's going on there.

Hmmm.

I've got a DVDR > analog > AVR which I can record (the MD will record FM also). That's why I was thinking it's an HDMI thing. The only stuff I can't record is sent to the AVR over HDMI.
