So I was watching the documentary "That Guy Dick Miller" and he was talking about filming a scene in Pulp Fiction (he played Monster Joe) which ended up on the cutting room floor. It got me to thinking about other well known performers who filmed scenes in movies that didn't make the final cut. Thought I'd post about a few and see if anyone else has some favourites.
Dick Miller (again) - Amazon Women on the Moon. Miller starred in a Joe Dante-directed sequence in this film, playing a ventriloquist, that has aired on TV versions of the movie but not the theatrical version. Sammy Davis Jr - Diamonds are Forever. The Bond producers wanted a scene with an authentic Vegas personality and filmed a cameo with Davis that was removed from the final cut, though it appears in the deleted scenes on the blu-ray. As it stands, Davis can still be "seen" in the movie in the form of an advertisement for his appearance at the Tropicana that Bond reads in a magazine. Eugene Levy - Ghostbusters II. Levy plays Sherman Tully, the brother of Louis Tully played by his fellow SCTV alum Rick Moranis. Some footage of Levy from the film has been released. Kevin Costner - The Big Chill. Costner plays the character whose death is the catalyst for the reunion at the centre of the story. He filmed some flashback scenes with the rest of the cast that were cut out of the film, now all that's left of him are a brief shot of his hand playing the corpse being dressed in the opening credits. |
