Default 1991-1993 The forgotten years of melodic hard rock/metal

I know melodic hard rock/metal is mostly associated with the mid to late 80's but I feel that the early 90's produced some great albums in this genre of music that were unfortunately overshadowed by the grunge movement. Do you agree? Here's a list of a few of mine. If you're into this style of music and haven't heard any of these, I highly recommend any of them! Also feel free to share some of your picks for this era!

I don't think that all of these fit under the label you've given them but, the only I don't own is the Loudness CD. My wife and I saw Poison's Native Tongue tour and KISS Revenge tour was the highlight of our honeymoon. I suggest you check out Rock Candy Records if you haven't heard of them. I have every issue of their magazine as well.

Some thoughts: Ritchie Kotzen was quite a big change for Poison. I liked the show I say...much better without the 25 minute C.C. Deville guitar solo but, Poison's guitarist IS C.C. Revenge was a big comeback album for KISS. They got back with Bob Ezrin and, for the first time in a LONG time, Gene Simmons was totally invested in a KISS record. Coverdale / Page was really cool but I'm glad David stuck with Whitesnake. Farewell To You off of Mane Attraction is the greatest thank you to the fans ever in my opinion. As somebody that likes a lot of music, I've made some compilation CDs for a couple of friends and Farewell to you is always the final track.

I'm curious, which of those albums do you not consider melodic hard rock/metal?'

Note: I REFUSE to use the term "hair metal" because it's a bullshit derogatory term that was started by the music media when grunge hit as a way to shit on the music that preceded it.

I actually don't mind the term "hair metal" or even "glam metal." Everybody gets labelled as something. As for your question, I don't think Tesla, Kiss and Coverdale / Page belong on that list. If you are a big fan of this era, read the book "Nothin' But a good time." It was released earlier this year I think. It was a great read for me and I think anybody that loves this music would like it.

I agree. The Scream is a great one too. One of those ones I couldn't find on CD for years to replace my cassette version. I was thrilled when it got re-released.

It's a great read. The author did lots of interviews with many of the people in the scene and then arranged everything into different topics to have at chapters so it's all just quotes from the many bands, managers, and label people that were there at the time. Here's hoping Santa thinks you were good this year.

Love all 3 Badlands albums.

Recently, Paul Shortino released 3 albums. A new Rough Cutt, reissue of the 1994 Japan only Badd Boyz album and one with Tracy G (Dio & WWIII).

If you like Tyketto check out Waysted - Save Your Prayers (same vocalist).

Some that I still listen to and would recommend in that era to varying degrees.

Fudging the date on some but not by more than several months. Images link to Rate Your Music for more info in case they inspire anyone to check some out. Listed in a rough more to less popular order.

Just a note of thanks for all the recommendations and that they did spark some new listens. So far, I've listened to the following that I had never heard before.

Babylon A.D. - Nothing Sacred
Coverdale/Page
House of Lords - Demons Down
Jagged Edge - Fuel for Your Soul
Saraya - When the Blackbird Sings
The Scream - Let it Scream

And revisited a couple that I hadn't in a long time.

White Lion - Mane Attraction
Y&T - Ten

I hope to tackle the rest I don't know or haven't listened to in a long time.
