THEY’D NEVER FORGET THE DAY HE DRIFTED INTO TOWN! From Clint Eastwood, the acclaimed director/star of The Outlaw Josey Wales, Pale Rider, Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, Gran Torino and The Mule, comes this western masterpiece and homage to his “The Man with No Name” legend. Eastwood portrays a mysterious stranger who emerges out of the heat waves of the desert and rides into the guilt-ridden town of Lago. After committing three murders in the first 20 minutes, The Stranger is hired by the town’s citizens to protect them from the three vengeful gunmen about to be released from jail. Eastwood’s second film as a director is a tribute to his three spaghetti western classics with the great Sergio Leone, and features a strong supporting cast that includes Verna Bloom (Medium Cool), Marianna Hill (The Baby), Mitchell Ryan (The Hunting Party), Jack Ging (Play Misty for Me), Geoffrey Lewis (Every Which Way but Loose), Anthony James (In the Heat of the Night), John Hillerman (Blazing Saddles), John Quade (Breakheart Pass) and Billy Curtis (The Terror of Tiny Town). Beautifully shot in CinemaScope by Bruce Surtees (Dirty Harry) with a great screenplay by Ernest Tidyman (The French Connection) and a memorable score by Dee Barton (Thunderbolt and Lightfoot).
[Show spoiler]Coming Soon on 4KUHD!
Brand New 2022 Dolby Vision HDR Master!

High Plains Drifter (1973) Starring Clint Eastwood – Shot by Bruce Surtees (Dirty Harry) – Music by Dee Barton (Thunderbolt and Lightfoot) – Written by Ernest Tidyman (Shaft) – Directed by Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven).

Maybe it's time to stop buying blu-rays all together and only buy 4K. Feels like I just bought this from Kino.

Awesome, glad I never grabbed the BD. There is so much coming out in UHD now, It’s hard to know what BDs to grab and what to hold off for a UHD.

One of the better Universal's efforts on Blu-ray. Should look great on 4k.

Usually you can assume it's something there's an existing 4K transfer of, but the old blu-ray was from the original HD transfer. So if this is what they're doing that makes it a bit more difficult to guess.

I had read Universal had been working on a new 4K master prior to the 2013 release. A report that Uni was working on this plus Double Indemnity and Touch of Evil. Shortly after all 3 were released within a 6 month window of each other in 2013. Uni also used the verbiage of remastered from original elements on the packaging. Something they had been using since 2012 to promote remastered disc, all from 4k scans.

Yep. Unless it's dirt cheap and unlikely to get a 4K release, I'm swearing off standard BD's.

Good to know. I wasn't aware. I'll hold out for a 4K of Double Indemnity too. Kino Lorber loves Wilder, so I can see that coming.

While I too would love that and it would be a day 1 purchase for me, the insider has ruled it out, stating another label has the license.

Another rumored Criterion title was what I read.

I don't even know how to tell what's likely and unlikely. But agreed.

Yeah, I can't imagine it being anyone else. I don't see Shout giving it a 4KUHD remaster, and same goes for Arrow. If Kino was telling the truth (they have been known to lie in order to keep surprises), it would have to be the big C.

almost impossible...

movies that I try to wait for like GREENLAND and LITTLE WOMEN stay on blu ray with no 4k release in sight---

movies I upgrade like HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER, MISERY, INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, BEVERLY HILLS COP, etc etc etc get a 4k release within the year of purchase...

I'm gonna have to think twice about double dipping blu ray releases with carrots like fancy slip covers and new scans....

This will be a great release as long as The QC is in place and KL don’t eff it up like they did with Hard Target. They’ve got to stop screwing up and treat their customers properly.

Anyway if done right this should look great. Hopefully it will keep all the bonus features from the previous release.
