Dreadwolf just popped up on digital storefronts for both Playstation and Xbox, as it says "Full reveal Summer 2024." I assume we'll see it sometime during Summer Game Fest.

I actually started playing a Dragon Age game on PS3 and then PS4 but never ended up finishing either which is a shame because they're pretty solid but somewhere along the way i just seemed to get off track and then going back to try follow it felt too much.

I will probably end up picking this up down the line though if it's as good as the others were.

I had a lot of fun with DA: Origins and DA2, but personally had some issues with DA: Inquisition. It felt kind of bloated and repetitive, especially in the Hinterlands section.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Dreadwolf, it'll be interesting to see if BioWare pulls together after two strikes with Anthem and Mass Effect Andromeda (neither are TERRIBLE, but eh).

I agree. The respawning enemies mechanic did the game no favours. I've always played on Nightmare, and in Inquisition the satisfaction of clearing an area is taken away, and replaced by roaming bears that are an absolute chore to take down. All of a sudden I'm looking for ways to skip fights, which flies in the face of my passion for this kind of squad combat. Although I played through it twice, I never got through any of the dlc. Whereas with the first two, I ran all content multiple times.

I'm hopeful for the new one, I hope its more contained, and I hope they go back to making more 'hot' characters. They can leave their immature sexual content by the wayside, that's fine, but game stars being like movie stars was never the issue.

So stoked for this! I never did get through Inquisition, which I'm playing now. I doubt I'll be able to finish though before Veilguard. But if I do, I might have to make an exception and go against my own rule of not buying a game when it releases.

You would definitely want to start it up, soon. Inquisition is a fairly long game, and Dreadwolf is a direct sequel, so you might be a little lost story-wise if you haven’t finished Inquisition before Dreadwolf.

I remember walking through the Hinterlands and out of nowhere Sera said 'milk, milk, lemonade. Round the corner chocolate's made.

The new one doesn't look like it's gonna have many nice little touches like that.

I'm not one to listen to reviews, but this is looking like a disappointment.

He does a good job of explaining his disappointment with the game, while also making sure not to paint himself as the final authority regarding its perceived quality. That said, the issues he brings up (especially the concrete examples he provided regarding amateurish writing and poor character conflicts/interactions have made me decide to wait for it to drop to $20, instead of my original plan to wait for it to go down to $40.

Spot on.

What got me up front is the cartoony look of the characters, and then when he said "... too scared to do anything confronting or dark, in fear that it might make the audience uncomfortable", that pretty much told me why the characters also look the way they do, as if they wanted them to look "nice and fun" to lighten things up even more. And then the comment "every interaction between the companions feels like HR is in the room" doesn't sound like something I care to spend $70 on. And that pricing is the kicker why I'm even being more critical of buying a game at normal retail, which I already rarely did long before the recent $10 price bump.

I played the prior games because of the story. But if it's a washed out version of what it once was story-wise, yeah this is bargain-bin for me, IF I even play it at all. But I'll give it some time for some play-throughs to make its way to YT before I decide.

I went from gung-ho hyped about Dragon Age to resenting it after watching reviews from SkillUp and MrMatty, not to mention all the super cringy cutscenes I saw leaked. I'll let time do its thing and see what the general consensus is, but I think I've already seen enough that this has been relegated to a never purchase or a $10 used from Gamestop kinda purchase.

Game has some potential.

(Insert note here. Game has 3 class outfits depending on clan you side with. I picked fortune one & Teesh or whatever that thing is with horns has the 3rd outfit I want for my character. You get 2 for free.)

It’s not a dark game story wise & I hadn’t seen cringe yet after 5 hours in game though I know it will show up eventually. It feels like a G rated cartoon story so far. Nothing special but does keep you engaged.

The fact that it is this polished actually surprised me. Harp on the story all day long but from a tech perspective it looks & runs great on PS5 in Performance Mode. Shocking..

After playing Life is Cringe Double Exposure Therapy, which I deleted immediately after finishing that 6 hour nonsense, Dragon Age Vielguard is something new that isn’t 100% garbage.

Waaaaaaayyyyyy to soon to write the story off. I forgot these games were 50 hours if you plow through the story as fast as you can. That said, I’m keeping my expectations in-check. G-rated n all.

It's kinda tragic because Bioware made Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, and they'd always tried to push the boat out as far as characters and story went, notably with Dragon Age Origins, and now shortly after Larian's Baldur's Gate 3 sweeps game of the year with exceptional character and voice work, from a staggering number of npc's throughout the game, it seems like Bioware is the hands of someone who does not know what that is or what it should look like.

There are currently no plans for Dragon Age: The Veilguard DLC.

That's according to Rolling Stone, which reported in an interview with creative director John Epler that "full attention [of BioWare] has shifted entirely to the next Mass Effect" game.
Quote:
Whilst Epler didn't comment directly on future content plans for the latest Dragon Age game, IGN says it believes BioWare plans to "support The Veilguard with quality-of-life improvements and a handful of smaller content updates".

Given the mediocre writing for this game, I'd rather this team stay far away from Mass Effect. We need someone who can return to the tone of the first game, albeit with the combat aesthetics of the second. Not Mass Effect: The Relayguard.

I bought it, but have not started it yet. I’m still trying to catch up on too many other games. I hope to start it in the next few weeks.
