Color 96 Minutes 1.85:1 Rated PG
From Barry Sonnenfeld, the acclaimed director of The Addams Family, Get Shorty, Men in Black and Big Trouble, comes this sparkling romantic comedy starring Michael J. Fox (Secret of My Success) and Gabrielle Anwar (Scent of a Woman). Douglas Ireland (Fox) is in one heck of a bind. While he caters to the whims of the super-rich, he dreams of building his own luxury hotel and hopes that a wealthy but unscrupulous investor (Anthony Higgins, Young Sherlock Holmes) will help. There’s one condition: Ireland must “baby-sit” the investor’s beautiful young mistress (Anwar). But soon, he must decide whether the love of his life is worth more than the dream of his life. In the grand tradition of classic comedies, this sophisticated and witty film puts a delightful spin on love, laughter and romance. The wonderful supporting cast includes Bob Balaban (A Mighty Wind), Michael Tucker (TV’s L.A. Law), Udo Kier (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective), Dan Hedaya (A Night at the Roxbury), Simon Jones (TV’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), Fyvush Finkel (TV’s Picket Fences) and fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi!

Already have the import blu from the Italian Michael J. Fox collection, but I'd possibly double dip if the a/v is improved. Though I doubt it since it's probably the same old Universal. Always enjoyed these lower key MJF comedies from the early 90s as a kid such as this, Life with Mikey and Greedy.

I like most of Michael's stuff around "Doc Hollywood" and "Secret of My Success..." but I've never seen this. Is it decent?

Haven't seen it since the early to mid 90s and need to get around to watching the import blu set I have, but I enjoyed watching it a lot on the premium channels as a kid. I'd also highly recommend Greedy for anyone who hasn't seen it. The ending is arguably still one of the funniest surprises I've ever seen.

It's hard to reject Michael J. Fox movies.

Too bad it's not the 1963 movie with Kirk Douglas, Mitzi Gaynor, et al.

I like both movies. I'm hoping we can get the 1963 movie if Kino does another deal with Universal. It has a great cast (Kirk Douglas, Mitzi Gaynor, Thelma Ritter, Gig Young, Julie Newmar, Leslie Parrish, William Bendix, Dick Sargent and even Edy Williams) and a nice score by De Vol:

There have been two DVD releases: It was first released in Universal's "Vault Series" DVD-R series and then later included in the Kirk Douglas: The Centennial Collection DVD box set.

It's pretty mediocre. Not as good as those films.

It's pretty good, definitely as good as those films and the co-lead is smoking in this.

I take it this is the same transfer as the Euro copies though? So I guess no need for a double dip.

100% agree. I love MJF but this movie is too cliche and safe for my tastes. IMO of course.

TSOMS and Doc Hollywood are both MUCH better (DOC especially) than this. There is one good line-when they are dealing with all the different broadway tickets in the park-Michael has 1 good Line then.

I blind bought this and just got done watching it. I remember when this was in theatres. I've always wanted to see it but never got around to it for some reason. I enjoyed it. Fun movie with a very satisfying ending. Michael J. Fox is great. Transfer is pretty solid too.

EDIT: Oh yeah. Was that Hamptons house the same one that was used in Wolf of Wall Street? I think it was.

I just saw they knocked this down a few extra dollars, so went ahead and ordered it. I can retire my DVD.

"Doc Hollywood", "Greedy", and this film all have a special place in my heart. They're the "other" MJF trinity.
