Default What future releases of already released stuff, could bring.

You know I've noticed alot of movies getting ruled as "bad transfers" and what not. This is a sticky question but...

Is it just me or do you feel that in a couple years to come they will re-release already released blu-rays (not all obviously) and claim they are "REMASTERED" so to speak ... they do this with cds alot, and I could easily seeing once you have sold a title to what you feel is the entire market (which is why I think it will be a while) then you just RE-release it and claim it remastered, new transferred etc. (not to say that it wont improve it, cause im sure it could done by different people etc.)

It kinda sucks to think about it, thinking that later your copy just sucks compared to the new one. However, on the other hand, if its one of your favorite movies its a plus that its getting redone.

Any thoughts? I see this happening, just way later down the road.

This already happens all the time on DVD, so there is no reason to assume it won't happen on Blu-ray.

I'm already holding off on certain Blu's because of it.

I think you're right. They already did it with The Fifth Element.

Yeah it happens with DVD to some extent, like more features and what not, but they can really upsell it by pumping a better transfer and what not, cause honestly I sure wouldnt want the crappy one as opposed to the new awesome looking one, since im big on PQ.

I think I'll just keep collecting but as soon as I see one re-make promoted like that, I'll know a bunch more are to come, and then start selling the ones I dont like the PQ of lol (while they still have some value) .. and rebuy the others , making this a horrible circle of things to happen. (IE: I buy blu-rays I have of DVDs and then sell them, and cry at the funds they bring in, and possibly so forth in the future.) *shrug* Im thinking too much

Here's the big thing: THey are not crippling todays titles if anyone is getting that impression

Many studios are also worried that they can no longer use increase in video quality as a selling point on newer titles.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with this. I truly feel that Fox has purposely "crippled" some of it's releases in order to make it easier for them to offer double dips later on. IE missing extras, non-extended cuts of films, etc.

There are others as well such as lionsgate with T2 and Stargate. Sony with Spidey 1 and 2. Disney (a bit) with Pirates 3.

I will admit though, I believe some of this is possibly due to them being early titles and not being able to get seamless branching working properly

Lionsgate will double-dip because, well, that's what they do. I'm also sure there will be versions of Spidey 1&2 with all the extras down the line (not sure about new encodes; might already be as good as the source permits), and maybe some Fox titles if BD seriously goes mainstream (I'm thinking Predator etc.), but if you think Wall Street will get a re-release in the next 5-10 years, you're deluded. It's JUST BEEN remastered and it has gotten the royal treatment on BD with a high bitrate AVC encode & lossless audio & all the extras from the DVD. It is what it is (and looks the way it looks) and it's certainly not going to be redone anytime soon, if ever.
