Default Harry Potter Gift Set w/HD DVD: Disc replacement information

I just got off the phone with a customer service rep at Warner Home Video, and here's the latest regarding the little "snafu" that some of us are experiencing:

Contact Warner Home Video at 1-800-364-6928 and let them know that you received an HD DVD in with your gift set. Right now they have made no determination on exactly how they're handling it (for those of you, like myself, that were told to send it all back, don't, call them back and verify), but will notify their customers that call with this problem via e-mail once a decision has been made.

I'm simply passing this on to help avoid confusion, and days and days of frustration by not getting an answer from Warner Home Video as to what they're doing. They're waiting on Corporate (and from the rep I talked to, they're hoping that corporate just decides to send out a replacement without getting anything mailed back) to make a decision, and until then they're just collecting data.

For those of us that want to start enjoying our movies now (except for the HD DVD, and NO! we don't want to hear from you purple people regarding this), this is good news, as we won't have to wait weeks and weeks for our replacement gift set to come back to us.

So start making those phone calls if you're one of the unfortunate ones like myself that got "infected" with their Harry Potter Gift Set so that the healing process can begin...

[EDIT] Sorry, I should have clarified: this is for those that ordered their set from Warner Home Video directly. Of course if you bought it from a local retailer, they should handle the exchange for you there. Didn't mean to confuse anyone...

[UPDATE DEC 17, 2007] Just confirmed with a phone call to WHV: They are sending out the regular Blu-ray edition of 'Goblet of Fire' to all customers who have reported the problem to WHV so that you will have the complete set for the holidays. In addition, they ARE minting the special edition Blu-ray copy and will mail that to you in a future shipment once they are available. So good news! You get two copies of the movie for your inconvenience, and if you haven't already contact WHV regarding your order, what are you waiting for?!

[UPDATE DEC 18, 2007] Posted by another member, below is a copy of the text of an e-mail received by them regarding getting your replacement disc:

Dear Sir,

Warner Home Video has corrected the problem. In order to receive your replacement disc we ask that you please contact our toll free number at 1-800-553-6937.

Thanks again for contacting us.

I'd just return it and exchange it, no biggie.

Exactly what my rep told me yesterday when I called. Hopefully they just ship a replacement so we can burn our dud discs.

Yep, burn the HD-DVD disc and wash your hands thoroughly. That's all you can do...

Or you could sell the HD DVD copy on EBay and maybe get some of your money back.

ya but why sell something to someone else that'll be gone within a year. Got to do the right then and not let someone else go down the path of misery

Make sure you don't touch the disc, whatever you do, you don't want to catch HD-VD.

I just wanted to publicly thank Wicky (mod) for making this a sticky so that everyone who gets the HD DVD has an easy place to find the answers their looking for rather than having to read through pages of posts to find it.

Looks like Warner owes us one. Mmmmm? How to repay? Blu-ray exclusivity? Mmmmmm? Sure. Why not! Works for me!

I just ordered this morning from Warner the 5 individual HP movies and I hope I don't get a dud from them. BTW they already charged my credit card and usually what that means is that they have shipped my movies out. Hopefully I will get them in a day or two.

My HP box set arrived yesterday. After hearing about this I checked inside. Not an HD DVD in sight. All in...Blu. (OK, well, save for the two standard definition DVD extra discs.)

I ordered the box set from Warner Home Video's online store.

Don't be fooled by ordering them individual. I did and still Warner sent me one HD-DUD. So the screw-up's isn't just from the set. My guess it's just some HD-DUD pricks in the warehouse pulling this stunt.

I would imagine they're aware of the problem by now, I would call them direct and see what they're policy is going to be on this one. You may want to mention what Warner is doing (waiting, basically on a decision from corporate) before you send back the entire box set...

when i called today the rep put me on hold after i kindly explained the situation, after 10 min on hold he said that corporate said they would be sending emails out to everyone that has called in and reported this problem once they figured out what they would do, he said it sounded like they would mail out the replacement discs and have us ship the dud back in the replacements package.

thanks
anthony

If there are so many Blu-Ray sets with HD-DVDs in it, then are there HD-DVD sets with Blu-Ray discs in them instead?

I mean, logic would dictate that they would produce the same number of discs as they are cases to put them in, so the Blu-Ray discs that should have been in these cases must be somewhere.

As much as many people here feel the need to ongoingly bash HD-DVD ad nauseum, perhaps it would be easier just to find out if the some of the HD-DVD sets had BDs in them, and find some web forum with people with such sets, and see about doing a trade by mailing each other the correct disc.

This is at least worth looking into.

WB isn't exactly super fast when it comes to exchanging errored discs. I've done so a couple of times with problem DVDs, and it can be a tedious process. My suggestion might be an easier solution, if some people could just get over themselves and their anti-HD attitude long enough to maybe check some HD-DVD and/or format neutral sites to see if anyone on the opposite side is having a similar problem.
