I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I figure it's as good a place as any to start.
I have a Samsung Series 6 UHD tv, and for a while I've been noticing a sort of "rippling pixels" effect around certain objects. It's usually on 4K discs (regardless of whether it's an upscaled film, true remaster or native UHD) and is very noticeable when the camera is sweeping about and there's a lot going on in the frame. The example that finally bothered me enough to start looking into this would be the new Lord of the Rings 4Ks. The discs themselves are an absolutely stunning upgrade from the old blu-rays IMO, but the presentation was often marred by this rippling effect, especially dense around the gleaming armor and weapons of the heroes and their soldiers. Stuff like The Last Alliance marching towards Mount Doom, Theoden's and Aragorn's pre-battle speeches in RotK, and many other moments throughout turn the screen into a sea of pixelated heat haze. I've tried both customizing and turning off Auto Motion Plus. Turning it off seemed to have fixed it, but this leaves me with noticeably worse framerate and a sort of flickering issue when the movie focuses on inked maps and intricate details, which is seriously hard on the eyes. Is there anything else I can do to avoid both the pixel-haze and the flickering ink, or do I need to just buy a better TV? If I need a better TV, can anyone point me towards a better brand/model that doesn't have these issues? Last edited by EvilMoose; 05-10-2022 at 03:23 PM. |
