Exclamation difference

Why is the bottom of a store bought disc a grayish color and a DVD-R is purple? Does it have something to do with the copyright on the store bought disc?

No. It's how it's mastered. Store bought disks are mastered from glass. Burnable disks use dyes to burn the info unto the disk thus the purplish color.

Why are store bought discs mastered from glass? Will recordable discs last as long as store bought discs if properly taken care of?
