Default Goodbye, Planet Earth (HD DVD)

Planet Earth, the shining jewel of HD DVD sales, is going off the cliff on Amazon:

http://charts.highdefdigest.com/rank...AE42F4DDC14A75

It's gone from the middle of the top ten high-def movies to number 9 and dropping like a rock. It's gone from the 30s and 40s in combined DVD/BD/HD DVD sales to number 83 and dropping.

It is currently the only HD DVD movie in the combined top 100 (next is American Gangster, which is a combo, at number 170, then Superman Returns at 281).

HD DVD sales in general had been doing poorly on Amazon (a former stronghold for the format):

http://charts.highdefdigest.com/hist...YPE=10&SPAN=90

But Planet Earth had, until recently, seemed mysteriously immune to the trend.

I guess reality finally set in, even for this magical title.

Planet Earth in Blu-ray is number 2 on the high-def media list and number 20 on the combined list.

I went to one of my in-laws, and he has a bunch of DVD's with one Mission Impossible HD-DVD set sitting mixed in with the rest. I wonder how many discs are sold to people just thinking that it's a better version of the DVD that will play in a normal player.

It's a starter title. Fewer sales...fewer starter titles sold.

I believe Planet Earth is a mark for how standalone players sell.
Almost every High-Def standalone players sold, there is a Planet Earth.

Unlike PS3 or xbox addons, the buyers of game console do watch movies, but not majority of them will care for Planet Earth. Planet Earth is for gift or self-buy for family users.

The sales figures of blu-ray/HDDVD versions of PE match exact what standalone players sale. HDDVD version was ahead of Blu-ray version by large margain, in same time, HDDVD players outsold BD players.

In dec, 2007, blu-ray version managed on top of HDDVD, in same time, we got the news that blu-ray players beat HDDVD players.

Just after warner's news, HD DVD PE falls hard like their players. When 2 weeks ago, HD DVD PE managed to climb up a little, with their players's price slashing, while other HDDVD movies keep falling.

Now it is start to fall again, and no hope to ever rise.

a part of me really wants to buy Planet Earth on Blu... but I think my girlfriend and I will the only one watching.. a lot of blu rays i have at home are more or less, a "family get-together tool" that i use to bring people into the living room to watch a movie.

Wow. Bourne and Beowulf are ridiculously low. Paramount and Universal seem to be maximizing their profits again.

Well, all things considered, Planet Earth is still very important to them...
Without PE, they wouldnt have a single title in the top 100 of Amazon.

Oprah was pushing her audiences to buy Planet Earth in general or in HD DVD?
