Default If you can, please support smaller Blu-ray labels during these coming months.

Just saw a post over on the Mondo Macabro label, that the next few months might make it or break it for the company in terms of new releases. Things aren't looking good.

Without question, times are tough for most, and disposable income is at an all time low. However, if you're fortunate during these coming months in terms of wealth or still being paid, throw in a few dollars for a Blu-ray purchase. A lot of companies aren't going to be the same when this is over and some aren't going to be here, This goes beyond Blu-ray labels, but since this is a Blu-ray forum and the a lot of these labels lively hoods depend on us, I saw help when you can.

VS, Mondo, Severin, the new Cauldron, Arrow, Raro, Scorpion, Code Red, and even Dark Force probably need our help the most. I consider Kino, Criterion, and Shout! to be the big dogs of the independent labels, but I'm sure they need our help as well.

These companies for the most part work hard to bring us titles many have forgotten about, and when the world starts to straighten out, I don't want them to be gone. It's completely understandable if this is a time where you can't make a purchase, but if you can, a Blu-ray or two a week could be the difference certain companies depend on to stay afloat.

While I agree with you necessities come first and movies are not a necessity. Just speaking from a practical standpoint.

From The Big Studios, I had "Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker" and "Birds of Prey" preordered months ago.

I do plan on getting Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, from Arrow, next month, but honestly that might be it from me for a while.

I'm a cartoonist and with everything out of wack, I'm not really bringing in the commissions right now (even with prices reduced).

I’m holding out to get Elvira from Arrow and The Good Place Complete Series from Shout since I did not get to use my WonderCon budget. The other titles I’m interested in are from the majors.

You better believe that the studios are looking to this crisis as a way to circumvent the theater and physical release model and go into streaming, so while people say it is not a necessity, say that to the employees that put popcorn into buckets, sell tickets, and sell blu-rays in stores and work in these small labels. It is a necessity for many.

I will gladly help out these smaller labels, and, as soon as it is safe and feasible to do so, I will frequent my art house movie theater. Certainly many people will not be in a place to do so, and you must provide for your family. Somebody I know got upset at a local restaurant that had an up charge during this situation for curbside pickup since the dining area was closed. My comment is if that is what I have to pay so they don’t fire an employee, so be it.

If all we do is hunker down and hoard toilet paper instead of thinking of the ramifications of others, we will be in a world of hurt, in many different ways than just not having a blu-ray to buy.

That's not how your response was worded, which is read as that you agree with him in principal about supporting smaller labels but that necessities come first which would preclude you from supporting those labels.

I was attempting to put my mind in that of the common man when it comes to movies. You know we are abnormal in that regard.

i will do what i can as well. that may not amount to much though. i'm essential so i will continue to work however the cost of living has gone up and honestly my wife will kill me if i'm buying a bunch of movies. have to wonder how many here will be able to do that. also places like Amazon aren't accepting non essential goods right now so places to buy from may be scarce. last thing is that depending on where the companies are they may have to shut down anyways. in NY state all non essential companies have been ordered closed for a while. as much as we think blu's are essential the gov't probably doesn't.

I think this is an unnecessary thread topic. No offense to the OP but we are all going to do what we can, as we can, to support our shared hobby. Those that support those smaller labels will do their best to continue that support. I buy from all labels as they release titles that I want to own. As my finances permit I will continue to do so. I will not, however, just blindly buy titles that I have no interests in just to sustain a business. No one should be doing that anyway as it makes no sense. We all are painfully aware that these events could change the face of this hobby. As far as people losing their businesses and employees losing their jobs, no one wants to see that for anyone in any chosen career field.

I’m not going to forget about VS, Shout Factory, Synapse, etc during this crisis. As a collector I will be, more than likely, spending a lot of time with their releases during all of this.

The thing is, none of us here needed to be reminded to support what we love. We do it regardless as we can and some of us even sacrifice to be able to support our hobby. I ate cheap boxed Mac and cheese for 2 weeks when I was younger just to afford those 2 weeks releases. Not recommended but I did.

Understand this forums members and how unnecessary your thread is because, believe me, we are all extremely aware and have been, even before this crisis.

100% disagree. If by looking at the Mondo thread, people are quite surprised in terms of what they are hearing. Even I, didn't know it was as bad as it actually is. I'm always optimistic, that companies have money stored for rainy days, but reality dictates, that's not often the case.

Many people bury their heads in the sand and don't want to know what's happening. My post was simply created to let people know that may or may not be aware of what's happening. I'm not asking people to buy random titles to keep labels afloat, but if there was a title you were on the fence about, now would be the best time to take action on said title.

Believe me, I understand the purpose of your thread. However, people who have their head buried in the sand are not concerned with smaller Blu-ray labels anyway. People on the fence may be moved but if they didn’t buy it pre financial crisis they likely won’t be buying it now. To be clear, I think you had good intentions here but it really is misplaced on the whole.

Again 100% disagree. My post applied to people who are in the position of making a difference. I for one am still currently able to try and make a difference and didn't realize how bad it was until Jared from Mondo made a post about it. Many might not even click that thread to see his response about what is happening, which is why I made a post about it. Sorry, that you think it's misplaced, but truthfully it's not. If anything, it's necessary.

Some of my favorite DVD labels went under during the last financial crisis. If physical media isn't so popular any more, then it could be worse this time. Too bad, as this year is shaping up to have a ton of interesting films being released.

Having said that, I am cutting back until the future looks brighter.

It doesn’t matter if you make minimum wage or if you are a millionaire, no one is going to change their buying habits regardless of a crisis. In fact, crisis will only make people reserve their funds not go out to the market and buy wants just to support Blu-ray or any other manufacturers. It is just not realistic. Again, the people you speak to here should already have a firm grasp of what’s going on. I haven’t read through the Mondo thread so I’m not aware of the disconnect they are experiencing from what’s happening in the world. Most of us here “get it”.

I want to support these smaller labels, but my issue is that they rarely release anything I like, or want to watch.
