Hey all. I've been searching the threads and haven't found a proper place to ask the questions I'm gonna ask, so here goes.... My ultimate goal is to set up a home media server so I can stream music and movies that I own in lossless quality, in-house- without being in any kind of cloud.
I've been going down a rabbit hole with my lossless music collection that I've ripped from cds that I own and store and was wondering: 1) If I'm streaming ALAC files to an Apple TV are they still lossless when I hear them or is there compression going on that degrades them? 2) How much degradation happens when I stream lossless music via bluetooth? 3) If I have tracks that aren't lossless and are instead saved at 320 kbps does streaming then degrade the 320 kbps further? i.e. Am I getting a copy of a copy? 4) Is there a music server that I can plug into my receiver via HDMI that will retain all of my iTunes metadata, including covers that I can directly access through my receiver even though it's not wi-fi? Any help is greatly appreciated. Much obliged! |
