I’m wondering what other collectors do. Do you
A. keep them in the cases? B. throw them out? C. remove them from the cases and store them elsewhere? D. other (explain) My choice is C. I read somewhere a long time ago that in a humid environment there exists, theoretically, the potential of exposing optical discs to an increased amount of moisture if they are stored together with paper products. The reason is that paper products absorb and retain moisture, which can transfer to the disc. What I've done is remove all the inserts and booklets from both my DVD and Blu-ray cases, insert them in polyethylene sleeves, and store them in plastic boxes. I've kept the DVD inserts of titles I replaced with their Blu-ray versions. I’m a collector by nature, having collected sundry items like baseball cards, comic books, magazines, records, superhero statues, coins, and less conventional things, so this is right up my alley. Having the inserts and booklets stored outside the cases has a few advantages: --No potential moisture transfer to discs --Less weight on shelves. Important if your shelves are made of particleboard or MDF. You’d be surprised by the amount of weight the booklets can add to the shelves, especially if you have a very large collection. --No accidental tearing of the pages when placing the booklets under the clips or removing them from the case. [Show spoiler] [Show spoiler] [Show spoiler] [Show spoiler] [Show spoiler] Of course the sleeves are unnecessary, but I put sleeves on almost anything I can, from BDs [Show spoiler] [Show spoiler] to records [Show spoiler] to CDs [Show spoiler] to movie tickets [Show spoiler]

I used to take them from the case and store them in a F13 lunchbox in my closet (especially with TV sets), but now I just leave them in the original case in the event I decide to sell the item. Makes it easier than trying to match everything back up.

That's a good point, but one way around it would be to arrange them in alphabetical order.

Why do people still use photobucket but never bother to update for 3rd party hosting. Just in case you have no idea what I'm talking about, nobody can see your uploads.
If they're your own photos, just use this site's features. It's simple to do. It's the paperclip, to the right of the happy face, top line ^ |

I like to take mine on walks when the sun is shining or maybe catch a movie at the cinema together & then give them away to charity shops.

I agree. But surely there must be people who store their movies in a basement or who go away for a week or two in humid August weather. Doubtful it would be an issue anyway. |
