So I bought The Hunt for Red October when it was first released in 2008 and it played fine. So I try to play it last night and it freezes at 1:07.08 causing the entire BD to lock up. So I thought it might be that I had Any DVD HD turned on so I turned that off and it still froze. So then I tried a different version of PowerDVD and it still froze. Finally, I tried a standalone player and it still froze. Has anyone else had this problem? It's obvious it's the disc, but is it an isolated incident?

I appreciate it. I am not sure what would cause this though. The time code almost makes me think it's where the disc has to change from the first to second layer.

I don't know. I store mine well also but it has happened to me. I actually started a thread about this phenomenon and several people reported having disks go bad on them.
It seems BD is not as perfect as the manufacturers led us to believe. |

Just a few weeks ago I found some of my HD-DVD's have gone bad.
Always played perfectly in the past (don't remember which ones). No problems with Blu Rays yet but I'll test my copy of October. |

I have had issue's before with "The Island" before at certain spots. So I think some Blu-Ray's may have a issue or it could be with the update on our players. I also had a weird issue with "Sunshine" automatically playing commentary during the movie when it's turned off. This happened after I did an update on my PS3.

Well, I just typed out a new thread, but then decided to search again before posting. Good thing I did as this thread turned up this time. I typed this out below...
__________________________________________________ ___ I've had a BR player since the launch of the PS3 (excitedly picked one up on release day), and have a few hundred BR's. Only one has ever given me any problem. The Hunt for Red October. I purchased this on 8/2/08 (yes I keep the receipts with them). It's been giving me some issues over the past couple years, and yes I understand I should have contacted the company right when it happened the first time...but alas I didn't. There are portions (2) of the film that just won't play, it stops dead in it's tracks. If I skip to the next chapter, it'll pick up and continue to play. But if I try to FF through the affected bit, it won't FF, it will just sit there in almost a paused state. Again, this happens twice during the course of the film. The disc itself is flawless, not a scratch or blemish anywhere. What would you guys do? Chalk it up to just a bad disc and buy another one? Or contact the publisher/studio and see what they say? Being so old, I'd probably get a nice canned response from the publisher/studio telling me to take a hike, but I will still probably write them just to see what they say. lol. Anyone else have any issues with this disc? Or similar issues to this? I take meticulous care of my BR/DVD/CD's, so I'm curious if others have had this problem. Thanks! -Mark __________________________________________________ ___ I will now have to go check and see specifically what scene it is (it's been some time since I have watched it) and see if we match up. Would be odd if we did. |
