I was planning to watch a 4K film tonight and when I put the disc in it didn't load. I first thought the disc could be slightly dirty so I cleaned it and when I inserted the disc the player recognised the disc and showed the name of the disc, but just wouldn't load it. I then tried five other 4K discs that I have watched before and the same thing happened. I also tried a few blu-rays and the same results.
Anyone have any ideas what is wrong? |

I'm using a couple of power surges and they're not always 100% guaranteed because, nothing can prevent an Act of God. Whenever there are severe thunderstorms and lightning I turn every off anyway. It's the best thing to do under those circumstances.

I would definitely upgrade to a slightly better player. I know players are definitely scarce, but I would say that the player is at least four-to-five years old. I’ve seen the 800 model at one of my local Best Buy stores for around $175-200.

Unplug it from the wall outlet and leave it off for a few hours and replug it in and see if it works again. It resets the player when you unplug it from the wall outlet. If that doesn't fix it I guess the player went bad time for a new one or get it repaired.

I unplugged the player last night before going to bed and tried it again this morning, same results.
Think it's time for an upgrade to the UBP-X800M2. I have a Samsung UBD-K8500 that came free with the 4K TV that I can use until I pick up a new one. |

Or if your a do it yourself type like me you could buy a replacement optical drive and do the swap. The drives name is Sony UPX-2. It's selling on eBay for like $30 for USA buyers.
Definitely sounds like your optical drive bit the dust. Something on the mechanism likely snapped. If you don't want to attempt repair than an X800M2 is definitely an upgrade. I wouldn't trash the X700 though it is repairable if you buy the replacement disc drive and have a tech guy do the swap if you don't want to attempt repair. With repair costs and replacement parts costs your likely better off buying an X800M2 and repairing the X700 later unless you take a crack at it yourself. It's pretty easy just need the right screwdriver, remove top and drive and know where the ribbon cables go, reinstall and yes have player unplugged. Last edited by danny24; 07-27-2021 at 02:15 PM. |

I would get the Panasonic UB420 if possible.
I had 2 X700s. The first one was clearly defective and the second one was better but not absolutely reliable. Now the UB420 that I have has much better video options and is very reliable. But the LG player could be good.... I haven't had one of those yet. Good Luck and Happy Hunting. |

The LG UBKC90 player is really good. I compared it to my just sold Oppo 203 and dare I say it has a slightly better picture? Bought another on eBay as back up, but it came scratched so hoping I could exchange it for one in a better condition. I'm gonna use the other one I have to hold me over till another Panasonic UB420 sale. I might pick one up then, or just stick with it!

A small update about my player, hence the thread bump. I found out that the issue I am having is software related and not hardware.
For the last few months the player has been sitting in my home office gathering dust, and the other night I thought I would give it one last go to see if I could get it working. As I was plugging it in, my finger was resting against the open tray button and caused a system reset, after this I was able to watch movies on it no problem, I watched two that night actually, and tested out a few other 4k, BD and DVD discs and they all worked fine, even the region free part was working fine too. The system also told me there is a new software update for the player, version M43.R.0284. But it won't let me update the software, it will download it and when it goes to install it, it stays at 0% for about a minute and then says it failed. Then it goes back to the original problem of not playing discs, untill I do a system reset again with the open button. So I was wondering is there anyway I could just wipe the current software on the player and install the latest update? |
