Default Saw X (2023)

Quote:
With Lionsgate set to revitalize the franchise next month with Spiral, the Chris Rock-fronted ninth film that brings Saw II-IV director Darren Lynn Bousman back behind the camera, producers Twisted Pictures have already begun development on the milestone tenth entry.

In their latest issue, Production Weekly lists SAW X as being in active development. It’s caused a bit of a flurry on reddit as hardcore fans noted that James Wan‘s Atomic Monster is listed as one of the film’s producers. The thought here was that Wan, who made his directorial debut on the first SAW in 2004, had returned to help develop the 10th film in the franchise.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Wan, as one of the co-creators next to Leigh Whannell, has been a producer on every single entry since the beginning. While this is the first to include Atomic Monster in the production listing, I can assure you that Wan has not returned as an active participant in the SAW franchise.

With all of that said, we can confirm that a tenth film is actively being developed. What that means exactly is up in the air as Twisted Pictures and Lionsgate are notorious for pivoting in different directions throughout the process. It’s also possible that the box office for Spiral, in theaters on May 14th, could affect the future of the franchise, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. As for now, Jigsaw’s games will continue on and absolutely live in infamy within horror history.

I'd rather just see more "book of Saw" anthology type movies.

But more Saw is good to me

Every horror franchise needs a sequel in space.

“The MarvelVerse of the Franchise”: Darren Bousman on Where He Sees ‘Saw’ Going Next

Quote:
After nine installments, the latest one now playing in theaters and taking the franchise down a different path, where does Saw go from here? Is there a future for the franchise beyond Spiral: From the Book of Saw? The answer to that question will depend on how the film performs at the box office, and, well, the news isn’t all that great on that front at the moment.

That being said, we can be pretty sure we haven’t seen the last of the Saw franchise, and Spiral director Darren Bousman has his own ideas on where the series might go from here. With rumors swirling about Saw X and even a Saw television series from Lionsgate, Bousman sat down with BD’s The Boo Crew Podcast last week to talk about Saw‘s potential next steps.

“I have found a renewed interest in the Saw universe. I thought that it was played out and I had done everything I could. Getting a chance to work with people like Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson has kind of reinvigorated my love for these type of stories and what can be done with them,” Bousman explains to the Boo Crew in the episode you’ll find below.

He continues, “So I think there’s a lot more to tell and a lot more I’d want to tell. Just because Spiral exists does not mean there will never be a Saw 9. This is a diversion… this is a different path. You’re not done seeing Tobin Bell at all. What I think will happen, if this is successful, is you’ll see Spiral 2, and then you’ll see Saw 9. And then you’ll see Spiral 3, you’ll see Saw 10. You might see a TV series. So I think you’ll be seeing the MarvelVerse of the Saw franchise, where there are different storylines taking place. And I think that that’s what it’s going to be.

“It’ll exist in the same universe, and there will be different storylines taking place.”

I like the idea of this.

Have Spiral branch out into it’s own franchise while continuing the Saw franchise. With possibilities of a TV series.

‘Spiral’ Writer Josh Stolberg Says the Next ‘Saw’ Movie Will “Make John Kramer Fans Very Happy”

Quote:
Darren Bousman’s reboot Spiral: From the Book of Saw pulled in $40 million worldwide earlier this year, not quite reaching the previous highs of the franchise, but it looks like it was enough to warrant the spend on another Saw movie. With the budgets kept in check, Saw can continue to be a profitable franchise for years to come, and another sequel is indeed on the way.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw writer Josh Stolberg confirms in a new tweet that he’s currently “polishing up the next Saw script,” and he offers up an interesting tease for what’s next.

“What I can promise you is that this is gonna make John Kramer fans very happy!!!” Stolberg tweets, suggesting that Tobin Bell‘s John Kramer may be coming back to the screen.

John Kramer (aka Jigsaw) was of course killed off in Saw III back in 2006, with the character making flashback appearances in subsequent films. Bell didn’t appear in Spiral: From the Book of Saw, however, which took place in the same world as the previous movies but introduced a brand new killer. Kramer may be dead, but it seems we haven’t seen the last of him.

In term of money I’d think so, though Halloween 2018 and kills might of beaten it.

I would assume stuff like Halloween and Friday the 13th would be a lot higher on the list if each film was adjusted for inflation.

Looking at TheNumbers they have the domestic gross of the Friday franchise at $382 Million, but when I take the adjusted number for each film the total is $891 Million.

Just like people tout Live Free or Die Hard as the highest-grossing Die Hard film of all time, but adjusted for inflation, it's actually the second-lowest... behind A Good Day to Die Hard.
