![]() ![]() Thanks to Disney a new Ice Age movie is being prepped for release, but without involvement of the studio that made it famous. Using the characters made famous by Blue Sky, the studio Disney acquired then shuttered earlier this year, our prehistoric friends will once again see dawn on Disney+. Many former Blue Sky employees are not happy. |

As much as I hate how Disney shut down Blue Sky studios, the truth is, they don't need them. 2oth Century Studios/Fox still has an animation department of their own. Hell, they were the ones that made the new animated Diary of a Wimpy Kid for Disney+. Don't be fooled by the Disney logo, it's a Fox movie.

20th Century Fox no longer exists. Now 20th Century Studios. 100% owned by the Walt Disney Company.

I don't care. I'm still calling it Fox. Same company anyway. 20th Century was Fox WAY before Fox News. Rupert Murdoch made the idiotic mistake of associating his news corporation with 20th Century Fox, even though the two divisions never saw eye to eye to begin with. As a result, Disney was forced to drop the name "Fox", when in reality, 20th Century Fox is the OG Fox.

Disney renamed it 20th Century Studios so it would not be confused as part of the Fox Corporation. |

Nobody sees 20th Century Fox as a different company than they were in the 70s when Rupert Murdoch acquired the studio in the 80s.

Did Lucasfilm stop making Star Wars content when Disney bought them? Did Marvel stop making comic book superhero content when Disney bought them? Did Pixar stop making animated CGI films when Disney bought them?

Part of the Disney takeover deal was the agreement to change the name. To sever all ties to Fox Corp. If Comcast had won instead of Disney, they would have had to agree to the name change too. |

Both News Corp and Fox Corp are seperate public corporations. They trade on the Nasdaq as NWSA and FOXA.

Back the it was still its own studio. Now it's merely a label in the Disney bouquet. Not much different from how Disney would manage Touchstone Pictures or Hollywood Pictures back in the day, or Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios in the present day. 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures are Disney now. Not just companies owned by The Walt Disney Company. But fully operating under Disney. There's a reason why Chernin Entertainment didn't extend the contract it had with 20th Century after the Disney buyout, or why talent such as Ryan Reynolds moved their production company to other studios (in that case Paramount). You're probably one of the folks who were happy about the buyout, but if you think that it's business as usual and that Disney didn't squeeze the life out of the studio and turned it into one of their brands, you're wrong. Doesn't bother me that Disney bought 20th Century Studios per se. Because, like I kinda mentioned, companies buy studios all the time. 20th Century Studios wasn't exactly independent before the merger. |

They operate like Disney's banners such as Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios do under their roof. It's not the same. And to make one further example, New Line Cinema used to be a studio which was owned by Time Warner and operated alongside Warner Bros. under the same parent media company. They had their own production, marketing, distribution, home media, whatever. This is NOT how 20th Century Studios operates under Disney. Then New Line Cinema was folded into Warner Bros. and became a brand of the studio, albeit with its own team of executives. But they're working to produce a set amount of material for Warner Bros. to release (across all media). THIS is how 20th Century Studios operates under Disney, albeit with their own lot. And going forward, when they are finally free from the last remains of what was put into development before the buyout, I believe that 20th Century will increasingly become a production factory for Hulu/Star except for a couple of exceptions. Look, I've accepted that 20th Century Fox as we know it doesn't exist anymore (nothing much you can do). And no one is telling you not to be happy with the outcome. That's fine. But the studio is NOT the same as it was before the buyout, as it's a completely different situation compared to when it would switch owners, but would remain intact as a fully operating major motion picture studio.
