If Diabolik decides to carry this version I will probably preorder from them. Looks nice. I have the Ronin Flix version but assuming this release will be a noticeable improvement in both IQ and packaging.

Very excited for this. I think the Fong Sai Yuk movies are the only classic Jet Li movies I still have in subpar blu-rays. I knew 88 was going to be doing their own release, but had no idea it was going to be UHD. Very cool.

Loving this Jet Li run from 88 Films; really hope they can get Hero (2002). Either way this is another Day 1 for me whenever that might actually be; I'm assuming we see a couple delays from the November release date.

Nice one.

Begs the question what's going on though - Burning Paradise got through unscathed a while ago (slightly different situation there as it's a historical mistake too, but even so...) and now Fong Sai Yuk, both of which have very very obvious horse falls in them which I would find very hard to believe the BBFC examiner(s) missed.

Confirmed to me directly by the 88 Films team:

FONG SAI YUK: As required by the BBFC, one horse fall is ever so slightly cut by a few frames, but you can still see what's happening. Otherwise, this is the full original Hong Kong version.

FONG SAI YUK 2: This is the FULLY UNCUT original Hong Kong version.

the first one was cut by 1 second why do they bother cutting a film of 1 second what a complete waste of time.

88 films misuse the word deluxe this is not a deluxe edition project a 1&2 is a deluxe edition but the legend 1&2 are not their is nothing deluxe about the release project a 1&2 as 20 special features 4 versions of the films a 100 page book and they want 60 and the fonsai yuk films have 4 and a 40 page book and one of the films are cut and nothing else and they want £35 for the blu-rays and £50 for the 4K UHD releases.

I hope you’ve emailed 88 to inform them that they’re wrong and something needs to be done?

You also understand that the deluxe edition can also refer to the packaging? Single digipacks housed in a rigid slipcase is a 100% a deluxe edition. And like my comment about your silly rant on the Magnificent Bodyguards thread. You’re complaining that there’s ‘only’ 4 extras; what makes you think there is any more? What makes you think 88 had access to any previously released material?

You should be thankful that this is getting released at all, and including a 40 page booklet. They could release it barebones, then you’d have something to moan about.

I can’t help but think some folks complaining about the prices of recent 88 Films releases, especially the UHD ones, don’t realize how costly it is for them to make these. I think I’ve actually read them saying this previously.

Something tells me 88 would prefer not having to price these editions around £15 over the blu-ray versions, but the truth is likely they don’t sell as well and they need to at least try and recoup the costs of producing them for the fans who actually do care about owning the best possible versions.

Even I can admit, blind buying titles in 4K can sting if I don’t absolutely love the movie (that happened recently with Bodyguard from Beijing, which I liked, but probably could have lived with in blu-ray), but most of the ones 88 are giving us in 4K I consider some of the best martial arts films of all time like Fist of Legend, Tai Chi Master, the Project A films, and this set.

I think those who care so much about the price probably should opt for the blu-rays because my guess is they don’t care enough to want to own any of these in 4K to begin with. If they did, they wouldn’t care about the price because these films may never even have a better release. Future proofing my collection is usually worth it if I means I’ll never need to buy something again. Can’t tell you how much money I’ve wasted over the years double, triple, or even quadruple dipping on films I love.

Just my opinion tho.

I only ever watched a BD of the first one that was cut I think at least 10 minutes, had wrong color grading and provided wrong dubtitles and no subtitles. Not sure anymore from which country it was. So this 88 release seems like a huge jump above all the previous ones.

I think that's a good point about future proofing. I know every generation imagines things couldn't possibly get any better but this time, it actually seems probable.

So, not a combo pack 4K+Blu ? I wonder if this is to keep prices a bit lower since this is a two films release. The other single movie 4K releases were Combo with Blu (Tai Chi Master, Bodyguard from Beijing, To Kill with Intrigue....). I suppose project A was a bit special and got the combo. Anyway it's all good. Might gor for 4k, or might go for the Blu release of Fong Sai Yuk for convenience and price. Not decided yet.

Payment taken by HMV. Doesn’t sting so much costing £39.99, still a high price though.

Haven’t seen these movies for a loooong time.
