Moderator note: Dragon Blade was only released on 3D Blu-ray in Hong Kong and Germany. The Hong Kong release is Region A locked and now out of print. The German release is Region B locked and does not include English subtitles for the non-English dialogue. All other releases worldwide are 2D only (and some are also shortened).
![]() ![]() Original post: Anyone have either the HK or German version of this? Movie looks to be a bit corny based on reviews, but wondering how the 3D is. Bluray.com gave it 2.5 stars for the 2D version. Last edited by the13thman; 12-08-2021 at 01:17 PM. Reason: added links and release info |

I liked the movie as I recall (been awhile). I do recall thinking about the same for the 3d as this website reviewer did. About 2.5 out of 5. It starts out pretty mild but later makes it into the medium range. I don't recall any negative parallax, unfortunately. That is what I recall.

Bet most didn't see it in 3D though! Notice how hard it is to find a review of the 3D version? |

Thanks guys, may take a chance on it. Seeing the HK version on DDDHouse, YesAsia, eBay, etc.
@Joe D., I'm seeing no reviews for the 3D Blu at all. But, did find this Variety review (positive on the movie itself) that mentions... Quote:

Might be a coincidence I mentioned those who reviewed the film probably didn't see the 3D version. Maybe it would have changed their opinions. Like what the author himself conjectures in high def digest when only able to critique 2D disc: "It's rather difficult to know what to make of the 2.40:1 1080p transfer that has been provided for this Blu-ray release of 'Dragon Blade.' I say difficult because this was one of the largest produced and biggest 3D successes in China over this last summer. The 3D is the main sticking point here. This is a film that has the look and design for 3D with objects and people flying right at the screen complete with cheap looking CGI effects to make the film look bigger and deeper along the Z axis than it is - unfortunately, this film isn't in 3D. This 2D presentation looks oddly flat at times. Some scenes where you can tell there was some impressive 3D depth is void of any depth at all in 2D. Details are strong for this digitally shot film, especially facial features and costuming and the impressive set design look fantastic. Colors take on a warmer yellow tone but don't distractingly skew primaries or alter flesh tones. Black levels are strong with blacks reaching that rich inky tone, but again, that sense of depth is oddly absent for a number of scenes. This is one of those movies that I would have really liked to have seen the true 3D version because it may have helped me appreciate the film a tad better." https://bluray.highdefdigest.com/25629/dragonblade.html Last edited by Joe D.; 11-04-2017 at 08:44 PM. |

Or is the movie fully dubbed in mandarin for every spoken dialog? |

It would appear the german version has an english language version, while the hk version has only english subtitles. Can anyone verify this?

I have the German version at the moment; it was only a few Euros so it was an alright deal, although apparently the Hong Kong version is the one to get. I'm considering picking that up next time I put an order in at YesAsia.
The German version does have an English track, but it's technically English and Mandarin mixed, and the Mandarin isn't subtitled. The Hong Kong release apparently has an English subtitle track than covers both English and Mandarin dialogue, which is obviously preferable for non-Mandarin speakers. |

They speak in English, along with Jackie Chan in all their scenes together in the Hong Kong version. Surprisingly, I would say there is more English audio than there is Mandarin! Maybe 55-45%. All the Roman soldiers are in English too. The English subtitles do not disappear when English is spoken. Its a great film. Loved it. But would give the 3D only a B- It was definitely there but for such an epic expected it to be stronger overall. Still, no way this film could be as appreciated watching it flat. Is this the Germany version? I got that it seems to be region locked for me since it is 2. Will rip it to watch it someday. It looks like I can enjoy this movie without the subtitles? Or at least understand what's going on?

Its the Hong Kong version. Its region A. Don't think you'll enjoy it without the English translation. It's a well written screenplay and you'll miss a lot without it. |
