Default Apple Pay with USA credit card in India?

Apple Pay isn't technically "supported" in India, but all that really means is it doesn't support Indian credit cards. However, this doesn't necessarily mean you can't use it with a card from a country that does support Apple Pay. I was able to use Apple Pay with my USA credit card in Belize, another "unsupported" country. My device even listed my transaction amount in Belize dollars (BZD). However, Belize isn't very far from the USA. Has anyone here from the USA tried using it in India with a USA credit card? Does it work on transactions over ₹5,000 (the limit for contactless cards, not necessarily authenticated devices)? I can't find anyone online who has tried.

It looks like from the lack of replies you’re going to find out first hand whether Apple Pay works in India. Let us know how it goes. I, for one, am curious to know the answer to your question.

I currently don’t have any plans to go there. I was just curious. Since I started this thread, I did some more digging and it looks like it does work, but I am not sure if the ₹5,000 limit applies. I was wondering if it worked because a YouTube user from India uploaded a video with Google Pay after it started supporting Indian credit cards. He tried it at two different stores in India and while the machines did successfully read the device, the transaction would decline both times. Isn’t the EMV contactless standard the same throughout the entire world?
