Pirates (Roman Polanski, TF1/Quinta Communications)
Broken Flowers (BAC Films) Bagdad Cafe (StudioCanal) Barber, The (AKA The Man Who Wasn't There, BAC Films) Sailor and Lulu (original release, BAC Films) Small annonaynce and never a deal-breaker as I'll remove the subs with AnyDVD or rip the disc. Been doing this since 1997 (DVDShrink still removes forced DVD subs today) as many DVDs have this 'feature'. I know the Oppo and some Philips allow the -almost- removal of the subs from the frame but I'm not aware of many machines (some Panasonics I think) that free this prohibition (like removing forced subtitles). |

![]() I wonder why this kind of information isn't on movie overview pages? Is there someway to edit? |

Great idea!
Can we have two separate lists? One for forced subtitles and one for burnt in subtitles? Also, I'm not sure whether it is worth differentiating releases where subtitles are forced for the English audio track only. For example, 'Match Point' (https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Match...-Blu-ray/4155/) has English audio and forced French subtitles, as well as a French audio track with no subtitles. Or at least that's my memory of the release as I've sold it now. |

![]() And yes, I meant the thread to be for English audio w/ forced French subs. Quote:

Mind 'burnt' or 'burned' in is really where they've taken a transfer from film to DVD/Blu-ray and the subtitles are part of the image (lots of old crappy Region 1 DVDs were like this) -forced can be removed. Where they've graphically applied subtitles to a Blu-ray they can't be removed obviously (they are now part of the picture/encode).
I've not seen any French discs with that but there's 2-3 UK ones (which aught not to matter to most people in the UK obviously as it's foreign language tracks). |

I ran across two that had forced subs:
"DOA: Dead or Alive" "Pulp Fiction" I don't recall either one of them being "burnt" into the image, but I definitely couldn't turn them off when set to English. ![]() |

![]() I see TF1 with a few entries so far, do they generally have hard coded subs on English audio? |
