Finally! The wait is over. Didn't expect this to be in 4K, and with a CD! Thanks, Severin!

What about Warrior of the Lost World? Would you categorize that as something else or just not on your wish list? I’ve been dying for this one to get a restoration and release.

These Italian films have great art, some of the best ever created for movies in general. They should do a "picturebook" edition that showcases worldwide art along with liner notes and photos. Nice big gatefolds for collectors and such, kinda like Laserdisc packaging. I'd pay handsomely for something like that.

This flick is way more entertaining than it deserves to be. As soon as gobs of two-stroke motocross bikes start tearing up the dirt, hordes of savages attack randomly, grindy vintage synths get pumping, and bullets start to fly in all directions, I'm a happy post-apocalyptic grindhouse camper. It's all here in spades, clear and punchy like never before.
The cinematography itself is really good. The transfer is actually beautiful, and the uhd looks great. No blown-out hazy highs anywhere to be seen, and black levels are solid without evidence of solidification or crush. Severin did a great job with the sun-drenched color palette here, and didn't oversaturate the skin tones either, finding some great balance in the master. The wide color gamut of the 4k format blows away anything they could've done here in 1080p. There's some damage that probably couldn't be cleaned up too well in some of the high-speed action footage, and there's occasional color instability from the source that pulses, but it's not really distracting, and I think Severin did just about the best they could with what they had to work with. The bright daytime skies also occasionally reveal a decent amount of damage that could've been remedied but probably at the cost of mucking up the grainfield a bit, so it was perhaps well left alone. A stronger encode might have firmed up some detail but it's more than serviceable throughout. It's a Severin jam, so no use picking it apart, and it's above average in terms of their work output. Overall, I feel this one's a healthy, scrappy, feisty win for genre fans. The handsome new uhd goes well beyond expectations for such a low-budget affair, and I'm well pleased to have something that looks this good in my vintage post-apocalyptic collection.
