The thread title couldn't have been "Johnny Mnemonic" then?

Thank goodness another more mainstream cult release, I feared for a while their Black Label range was following too closely their other lines and not the original intention

It sounds exciting but I feel like every 101 Films release is a film stuck on a BD-25 or 50 but giving the film like 20GB of space.

They just come across as low quality.

But maybe this release will be different

Good news - it has the Japanese cut.

Bad news - the Japanese cut is SD only.

For whatever it’s worth, that’s been the case (to my knowledge) for every prior worldwide home video release of it, too.

Imported the US release years ago, so not desperate for this one, but good news (kinda) about the Japanese cut.

What would the difficulty have been in making a composite version that only utilizes the SD Japanese cut footage when necessary?

Seems like I've heard of rights holders preventing any type of editing of the films they license, even for something like this. No idea if that's an issue here.

More likely, I believe the Japanese cut is a completely different edit of the movie. Scenes moved around, alternate camera angles used, some shots are slightly longer. It's not just a case of a few deleted/extended scenes added back into the movie. It would probably be a lot more work than it's worth to make a composite.

Director Robert Longo: ”There's never been a director's cut. Ironically, there is a version that some people misunderstand to be a ‘director's cut,’ the Japanese version of it, but it's not a director's cut. It's basically got more Takeshi Kitano in it. That's basically what it is.”

Does anyone know if, to date, the 'standard' editions typically have the same disc content as the Limited Editions, just with less packaging?

It looks like £25 is now the norm for the black label series, another one I'll pick up in a sale.

Two things I don't need. Fingers crossed it eventually gets a standard edition, then. The movie is no masterpiece, but I do love it.

Many thanks.

It will, I'd imagine this will sell-out reasonably fast, I'd expect it the quarter after the LE's release date.
