Finally. Thank you Shout!

Just bought ‘What We Left Behind’ from Shout (my first) last week: had I known this was also coming I would have bundled the order (dunno if that makes a difference in shipping cost to Canada though - I’m going to pretend I know it would not have ).

A wonderful, warm hearted film. A little bit flawed but terrific performances all around (Bing and Barry both won Oscars) and a brisk pace with lots of charm to go around make this one of my favorite blends of Musical, Comedy and Drama of the 1940s. Been a Crosby fan since I was a kid in the 1980s so this is a definite pick up.

Glad to see this finally getting a release. I kinda assumed it was going to continue being overlooked.

After this release there will be eight Best Picture winners that haven't hit blu-ray yet. Kino will be releasing The Lost Weekend sometime this summer.

All that's left are The Broadway Melody, Cimarron, The Great Ziegfeld, The Life of Emile Zola, Hamlet, The Greatest Show on Earth, Around the World in Eighty Days, and Ordinary People. Hoping Ordinary People is next!

I assume it will be universals current master which is not bad for their standards or shout may do their own scan. It's harder to know for an older release

Nice to see this getting released but Shout is getting to be like Twilight Time with their prices.

Do Shout Select and Kino Lorber include digital copies with their Blu-ray releases? I haven't been able to find out if that's the case with Going My Way.

I don't see anything on either company's website, so I'm assuming no for all titles.

Hamlet is available as an import, especially if you have region-free equipment (UK Region B-locked); it did get a Region A release in Japan but it's OOP and rather expensive even for Japan.

OTOH, it ain't for a lack of HD masters; IIRC the only Best Pictures not available in some form of HD streaming are The Life of Emile Zola (SD streaming only) plus Rebecca & My Fair Lady (both released on BD -- twice each, in fact -- but their home video rights apparently don't include streaming).
