Really?
![]() I can't believe such a beautiful piece of movie making is getting so little attention, both here on these boards and from the studios, it would seem, for the release is pretty bare bones, as far as I know. It would have been nice if they had included the MAKING THE MISFITS documentary, which had a very limited release on DVD and it's been out of print for a while, now. |

I pre-ordered it, but haven't gotten around to watching it yet.
classic films in general have a hard time getting much love anywhere anymore. it's just the sad reality of a world obsessed with superhero action movies. (on the plus side, dvds of a classic films are a steal these days; I can't seem to buy enough) ![]() |

It's a classic movie with two very excellent actors. My main problem is Monroe that I never liked or care about. The only movie I would care to purchase with her in is How To Marry A Millionaire and it's mostly because Lauren Bacall is in it.
Still anyone should at least rent this one to see it once. Last edited by P@t_Mtl; 05-12-2011 at 07:17 PM. |

It's on my 'to buy' list for sure. It really is a shame so many classics are being released bare bones. This and Some like it hot deserved a Digibook release at the very least.
For a lot of titles missing the extras I just buy a 2disc case and stick my DVD in it. Considering even when they do release extras a lot of times its just standard def anyway. While there is a nice piece on the film on Blu-ray.com we still don't have a review. Does it come with any extras? Last edited by Banned User; 05-12-2011 at 02:15 PM. |

I am waiting for amazon to deliver it. I just got it "Some Like It Hot" in the mail.
For me, Marilyn is the SOLE reason why i want this film. I adore in this role and am glad it's finally on Blu-Ray. |

The movies not bad. It is Monroes last film so I guess thats important. I'm guessing these movies just aren't for everybody. I particularly do no enjoy 60's Hollywood cinema. It all seems too stylized for that decade. The real golden era is the 1970's.

I LOVE 'The Misfits'. I have a LaserDisc, VHS, DVD and now the Blu-ray. Montgomery Clift is one of my favorite actors. Marilyn Monroe.....I love her as well. And of course Clark Gable. The movie is classic Hollywood. My Blu-ray hasn't arrived yet but when it does, I will be watching it immediately.
I even changed my avatar to it's cover! Last edited by BluPat; 05-14-2011 at 03:39 AM. |

I think that's exactly MGM's approach to most classics on BD--no restoration, no extras other than those that happen to be sitting out on the shelf (i.e., recent DVD editions), just find an HD transfer and dump it to BD. That's exactly what they did to Rain Man, and from their UK versions it appears Midnight Cowboy & Platoon are getting the same treatment. I think MGM's only 2011 catalog BD they put any real effort into was Dances With Wolves.

It was the final film for Clark Gable and the last COMPLETED film for Marilyn Monroe. Montgomery Clift went on to make 3 more films....Judgement At Nuremberg (1961), Freud: The Secret Passion (1962) and The Defector (1966). He was supposed to begin filming Reflections in a Golden Eye (1967) but died of a heart attack right before production started at the age of 45. Elizabeth Taylor wanted him in the role as her repressed homosexual husband. Warner Brothers/Seven Arts didn't want Clift because, by this time in his life, he wasn't reliable and they weren't going to insure him for the film so, to get him the part, Elizabeth Taylor put up her own money as insurance for him, thus, getting him the role....if he had lived that is.

She had a few breakouts of actual acting--Seven Year Itch, River of No Return, Don't Bother to Knock ( ![]() Misfits, though, is one of those good synergies of puppydog-smitten directors (or, in this case, ex-husband screenwriters) wanting to show what a Naive Sweetie she was, and giving her enough non-acting space to be natural in it. If she can't act, at least let her play something close to herself where she doesn't have to. If you had to see only one MM movie, "Seven Year Itch" obviously (and more for her likability than the dress-flip), but if you're curious enough to see two, Misfits will probably be the one to drop the guard of any Marilyn-hater. |
