Default Popular Movie Opinions: Part I

There does not seem to be any thread at all for popular movie opinions, so I figured why not test the waters with this thread.

If you've got a movie opinion that is considered popular and/or is shared by a majority of people/critics, post it here.

I'll start:

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the greatest movie trilogies of all time.

In which case I consider it a popular opinion to love the movie, so it belongs in this thread as being a fantastic movie.

No movie franchise will ever top the MCU.

I agree. Other franchises tried to do what the MCU have done but things just didn't go right. With Terminator, things just went south after Salvation, the franchise had 2 attempts at being rebooted and both have failed.

With the Fast & Furious franchise, it sort of evolved. It changed from being about racing to trying to be the next Mission Impossible movie with unbelievable stunt after unbelievable stunt and it just got too much IMO, although apparently it's ending with F11. However they make good money so I guess that's good, although I can't help but feel like they are alienating the fans of the first bunch of films that were more focused on racing and not crime fighting.

I'd say a similar thing happened with the Transformers franchise, it started off well (I liked the first Bayformers) but each one gradually tried to get bigger and more "high concept" and it just didn't work well in the end. They semi rebooted it with Bumblebee which I really enjoyed though. But apparently a sequel to The Last Knight is still being worked on in the form of a script, so I'm not quite sure where that's heading.

Point is, most franchises just don't last that far down the line without certain films alienating the audience and/or the fanbase of the characters they are putting to film, or without rebooting at an attempt to bring the franchise back around again and also to a new audience.

The MCU has been consistent at the very least, even if there are entries that are not completely my cup of tea.

There's plenty of room in life to enjoy all types and genres of movies.

Also others that tried and failed after one move. King Arthur and Robin Hood. Must not be so easy if no one has been able to pull it off for so long.

Indeed, that goes for a lot of things. Just so much to enjoy across all of entertainment. People are spoiled, I remember having 4 channels.

Artemis Fowl didn't really do a good job at starting up a franchise either. At least they tried, even if it was terrible.

Yeah The Mummy was another one. Probably some that only reached the scripting stage.
Everything has hits and misses. The MCU as you said is consistent. There is nothing else like it.

Sure it went a long time, yet there was not a real connection and it was not all consistent

The only thing more obnoxious than a Nolan sound mix is a Nolan fan.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is the worst Indy film by far (though it's not bad necessarily).
