Hi Gents,
I'm trying to get an idea if anyone else has the same problem I am having and if I need to seek repair for my Pansaonic UB820. I own the 4K UHD Discs of Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II. Whenever I play PE II, as soon as I hit "Play All" from the main menu, the HDR goes off and stays off. I then have to go into the HDR menu of the UB 820, toggle HDR Optimizer off/on and then the HDR works. With Blue Planet II it is worse. I had to stop/start the disc numerous times before the HDR stayed on. In either case the HDR was always on when the main menu was appearing but as soon as I hit "play all" or select a specific chapter, the HDR goes off and my problems begin. I ONLY have issues with these discs. I have played at least 15 other 4K discs with HDR or Dolby Vision and they have all played fine. What would you do if you were me? Thanks for the input! |

Gently wiped both discs with a microfibre cloth.
And if it is still causing the issue, clean them with dishwasher soap and warm water. Then dry them with a soft piece of cloth, paper towel, ... from center to edges, gently. |

I'll try it LOTR, but I bought these discs brand new and have had the issue since the first day.
Cleaning the discs usually resolves playability issues. The discs play just fine, its just the UB820 is not recognizing the HDR the way its supposed to. |

I know they are brand new, I know they are playing too.
Just try it. |

Which firmware is the player on? I had exactly the same problem with Blue Planet II while the player was on firmware 1.47. I haven't checked if it is still there with firmware 1.51, but will do so and report back here. |

Glad to see I'm not the only one. I'm using the latest firmware.
This did not happen when I had the Oppo 203. |

Could my UB820 be faulty?
I just bought Planet Earth II 4K with HDR on Blu-ray. Whenever I put the disc in and start playback, the 4k video is washed out and HDR is not enabled even though the playback info settings says that it IS enabled. The only way I get to see the video in HDR is if I hold the "HDR setting" for a few seconds to show the HDR optimizer setting. When I enable HDR optimizer then the video get brighter, more contrasty, and with rich color with the HDR logo popping up in the top right corner of the screen. I can't seem to have the UB820 auto detect HDR and enable it properly. Is my unit faulty or the discs themselves for PE2 4K? I heard that the Planet Earth II 4K with HDR on Blu-rays have some metadata missing. |

I have a UB820 hooked up to a Denon AVR-X2300W and then on to a Sony A8G and can confirm I have the same problem with Blue Planet II on 4K. The preview video before the menu is displayed in HDR, the menu is displayed in HDR, but as soon as I select an episode from the main menu it drops to SDR and looks really bland. Stopping and starting the disc a few times I can occiasionally get it to play in HDR when the episode starts but not consistently. I also have a Sony X800-M2 hooked up through the same reciever and tv and the episodes are correctly displayed in HDR every time without fail through that player. My guess is its something to do with combination of UB820 and this particular title. The AVR pass through may also be a factor (although the X800-M2 has no problem with this). All other titles I've tried through the UB820>Receiver>tv have played correctly.

Now, I'm having another issue with the UB820. When watching an Atmos title, if I hit pause then play, the audio does not resume. If I skip to a particular scene, often there is no audio.
The only way to resolve is to either fast forward and/or rewind, hit play and then the audio resumes. Not sure if these issues are related but it is disheartening. I have all the latest firmware on the UB820 and my Yamaha RX-A2060 receiver |

Hate to revive an old thread, but has anyone been able to solve this problem? Using a UB820, my Blue Planet II and Planet Earth II discs are in HDR in the menu, but when playing any episode it switches to SDR. I've tried wiping down the discs, turning on and off HDR Optimizer, no dice. Always SDR.
