Default Trilogy of great movies Citizen Kane, Tokyo Story, The Rules of the Game

I see these 3 movies consistently at the top of the list. Yet I have not seen them. lol

I want to change this very soon. I feel fortunate to be in a great time for film. Wonderful transfers with wonderful extras.

The only thing remotely close to viewing these classics is being a film class in high school and kinda sleeping and catching pieces of Citizen Kane.

I love Paul Thomas Anderson, the Three Color Trilogy, Scorsese, Kubrick, Bogart, Its a Wonderful Life...etc.

Recently I have been starting a Marilyn Monroe kick and after watching All About Eve I got a kick in the head and thought...why am I not watching more great films?

I pretty much throw my money away on collecting budget stuff or running to the latest sale, and even getting on a 3D kick and buying anything that jumps out! Yet with House of Wax and Wizard of Oz I still feel that pang...I need to watch more great films!

So with that aside I would love to hear more comments on these 3. While there are lots of posts on these movies, I like pitting greatness against each other. I don't mind people railing on, and yes I also don't mind people saying what doesn't work with this trilogy, and how I should pick another one.

On a side note, the two I love comparing and never get tired of watching...Casablanca vs Gone with the Wind. Two very different movies...two romances considered as classics, and yet two I struggle with and watch over and over again. They age like fine wine with me and I find them to be pure pleasures to revisit again and again.
