Looks like Paramount is finally making use of those new HD masters

1-5 in November, 6-11 in December.

I do love this show, but not sure I need it on Blu ray since it's always playing on Comedy Central. All I have to do is turn the tv on lol.

I'll get around to 'em eventually. Hell, since this is Paramount, if I wait long enough they'll repackage them in dirt cheap epic paks. And it's not like waiting on these will make them not release future seasons since we've already got 12-20 on Blu and those are still successful enough to make it to BD every year.

But as usual, I'm thrilled to see any TV show make it to Blu.

This is something I've been waiting on for a while. One thing they don't mention is that these will most likely (hopefully) have the uncensored audio, which seasons 1-10 don't have on DVD.

I wish they would re-release Season 12 on Blu-ray, since it's the only season so far to be interlaced, and it has this slight motion-blur kind of effect (I don't know if that's caused by the interlacing, I'm not an expert on that sort of thing)

I remember the "bleeping" being part of the episode, and it kind of made it more funny back then. But now I agree with you; I think I'd rather them uncensored.

Widescreen or standard?

Or, the better question, when they rerendered everything, did they add info to the sides of the earlier seasons to make them widescreen without having to zoom and crop anything?

Uncensoring the audio ruins a lot of the jokes in the early seasons, so I hope that they include both audio options. [Also, I'm pretty sure season 1 and maybe even season 2 are not uncensored in HD.]

I also hope they have done some updated QC on the HD transfers, so they can fix the floating hands and other discrepancies.

More than likely these will be widescreen. The remastered versions Comedy Central has been airing are in widescreen, and yes, they are reformatted, as opposed to being cropped or zoomed in.

Actually, I think the pilot episode was actually remade in 4:3 and used slightly different shapes/faces to keep it as close to the original version as possible.

Yes, they re-rendered in widescreen with added picture, but there are odd imperfections that crept in here and there. Arms cut off at the elbows, that sort of thing.

The re-rendering introduced some strange discrepancies, though, things like people's faces not changing, in making it HD they inadvertently made the animation look even cheaper in a lot of ways. Nothing major, stuff like "The Mayor doesn't react when her assistant makes a bad Kathy Lee Gifford joke". The kind of stuff that would bother people who watched the early episodes obsessively.

Yeah true.
And even rendering those old episodes in HD won't mean they're going to look like these current seasons. Just watch Comedy Central for the HD broadcast of the older eps and you'll see. The "paper" (we know it's not paper) in seasons 12 or so and up have such great but simple texture detail that's obviously just not there in the older eps. But just getting em on blu is gonna be great

Excellent news. I'll be picking all of them up if specs are appropriate. I'm unconcerned about the aspect ratio, thanks to the reformatting. In a perfect world, we'd get double the discs to provide both 1.33:1 and 1.78:1, but that's obviously not practical, given the appalling state of TV on Blu-ray.

I have to admit, I'd never thought I'd see this day.

Yes, but probably in syndicated versions. Comedy Central is always loaded with asinine advertisements, and it wouldn't surprise me if some episodes were cut for time, especially these days. It will be great to own the best seasons in full 1080p with (hopefully) lossless audio, and commercial free.
