Alex Cox is working with Criterion and he said they are working on it, so it's not a rumor as he mentions it's coming this year. (He'll probably be involved in one of the special features) If it actually happens this year is another matter as Criterion can often be delayed. Still, it's coming for sure.

Sir Duke, dude. I know who Alex Cox is and know he’s been working with Criterion for years. We will never see eye to eye on this, but even though Cox is clearly more informed than you or I, you know a lot can change with a film project or go wrong along the way. I’m sure Criterion is working on it and hopes to release it, but the way people jump on even a third party mention of this in an interview is just not helpful to me in any way. When Criterion announces it and it’s for sale, it will be confirmed. I only buy releases that exist.

Sure, but none of this changes the fact that it's planned for a release this year. So plenty to be excited for.

I can confirm that it is indeed coming, but will have a brand new cut supervised by Joel and Ethan Coen. Billy the Kid has now been completely removed from the film.

I'd settle for the preview cut with the sequence involving Garrett's wife reinserted, but hopefully they'll have the sense to include them all.

That’s my hope too. From my understanding of the commentaries and other bits of history I’ve read, that scene was in fact in the preview cut, and its reasons for being left out of the released 1988 “Turner Preview” version are unknown. Hope they take that into account when they restore it.

-The actual preview cut, with the wife
-The theatrical cut
-The Turner preview cut, without the wife
-The Seydor cut

Are there actually four cuts of this movie?
