I just got my new receiver along with replacement 4K tv but wanted to see if any movies on disc support the BT2020 color spectrum or if Dooby Vision/HDR is the cream of the crop for color space on disc. Thanks guys and gals.

They all support the color space container, but few take advantage of it to date.
I've heard of a few. https://www.nanosysinc.com/news/2019...outside-dci-p3 Showing areas of additional color: And below, I don't like that he says "useless". Lol. Unused is probably a better fitting word. Hopefully it will be more used as the months and years go on. Addition: NanoSys Movie Night playlist Last edited by rcbetker; 10-24-2020 at 02:59 AM. |

Reporting these "mastered in" numbers doesn't necesarily mean its got colours in either of the spaces. Or is limited to the space in the case of it stating it's mastered to P3...
That could still mean that some cluster of pixels in certain scenes go into 2020. It's all supported in the timeline mastering process of HDR grading. Every colour is capable within rec. 2020 to end up on disc data. Maybe not in most Hollywood movies is this common. But all content CAN. To display is another variable entirely. This is where mapping, tonemapping and guestimation (re: DTM on OLED, Dynamic Contrast on LCD) will come into it from the end display. It's still going to be upwards of 5 years before any consumer display released at that time will play disc data in Hollywood movies "natively" pixel to pixel. And there will still be outliers most likely where it's re-mapping what it can't reach (colour volume of rec.2020) |
