Default Child's Play (1988) (Collector's Edition)

Just came across this post over at Scream' facebook page...apparently the director himself has confirmed at monsterpalooza that he is doing a new commentary for Scream' release.

Would be great if we got that Original poster art for the slipcover or at least a reversible cover.

Such a great teaser tagline also... you have no idea it is about a killer doll.

Thumbs down

Another re-release of a title that has been available for years, already has good PQ / AQ and a bunch of extras, and is cheap. So Scream can add a few new things, commission new artwork, slap a slipcover on it, and sell it for a premium. Nice.

My Chucky: The Complete Collection set is complete enough. Pass. (If Scream did a double feature of CP 2 & 3 with extras, or a new box set with upgraded versions of all the movies, I'd consider it.)

Sweet. While I love my boxset of the films... a fullblown special edition of the original will be awesome.

And I expect an amazing release from Shout Factory. Would love them to do the same for Pt. 2 and Pt. 3.

Holy..s#*t!!! Oh, now they GOT to do special editions of 2 and 3!

EDIT: Welp, notified Don. Let's see what happens.

EDIT 2: I'm surprised MGM would allow the OK for this, this film is one of their big titles.

No thanks, already have the complete set. I'm not really interested in extras either, so there's nothing to make me want to get this.

While I would love to hear from Holland since I think he was largely absent from the currently available bonus features, I would much prefer a special edition release of Child's Play 2.

They had no problem licensing it to Universal for the Chucky Collection set.

One already exists. One new commentary track is not enough of a reason to double dip.

It's probably gonna be a lot more than that. The Thing collectors edition only listed a couple of new things and a lot of the old stuff ported over. Then later they announce a whole slew of new extras. I think it'll be the same for this release. They basically told us all the old extras are being ported over and a couple new things. Probably by the end of the month/early next month they will list all of the new extras.

A non-DNR'd release of Bride, possibly double billed with the unrated version of Seed. I'd throw some fat cash at that.

Have to say I agree with Z51... this doesn't need a re-release. Especially since the final package will be VERY similar no doubt to what MGM put out.

I don't know. A new (4K) transfer and deleted scenes alone would be worth the purchase.

I already have The Chucky Collection Boxset, and I don't need another individual Child's Play blu-ray release from Shout Factory. That would be a waste of money because, basically it's the same movie.

I'm guessing Scream will do separate Collector's Editions of at least I-III, rather than a box set. I know they discussed the prospect a while ago, but that was before the current one.

I'll pick it up only if they go all out and give us something similar to what they did with Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and Return of the Living Dead. If not, I'm perfectly fine with my boxset. I don't imagine the sequels getting 2k scans because all Screams Universal titles pretty much look all the same.

Not one but TWO slipcovers.

A new transfer like on TCM 2 and I'm in.

Well, I was referring to the 2k scans, but if they did offer two slipcovers I'd definitely be into that. Just one more thing to sell on ebay to recoup a portion of my money back.

Very good point. A Blu-Ray release of Child's Play will contain the same movie as another Blu-Ray release of Child's Play. Basically.

Anyway, I already have the Chucky box set that Universal put out, so I'm not planning on upgrading. However, I know I've said that multiple times and have ended up upgrading anyway, so who knows...
