Smile Be kind to the n00bs!

Guys, Is it just me or are some member bashing the new members on here.

New member may make a post about grain or black bars or when is this coming out and before we help them out and steer them in the right direction some members just start goin at it with them before trying to help the.

The funny thing is that its not members with a high post that doing this it member with less that 200 post count.
The people who have been around here long enough know the right way to do things.
I am not saying my post count is high but I do help when I can.I am not an expert at this like some of the guys on here but I at least try to help with grain, when is this and black bars question.

AVS welcome new members worst than we do and with the influx with the newbie we need to need more patient.

A newbie should ask a question get some answers and eventually they will learn.

Tell me if I am right or wrong on this.

I think you are dead on.

The first time we seek out a forum (of any sort) it's usually because we have a "dumb" question.

Welcome the noobs!

I agree. I may not have a high post count, but I have been here for a while. I think people need to be a little nicer. Everyone pretends they are mods. Let them do the enforcing.

Sometimes I stay away from the Newbie forum for that reason - I could never be a teacher, I lack serious patience to deal with questions that have been answered by me many times already, albeit to others. Think of it this way, if 600 kids asked you what 2+2 is, you'd start out saying 4, of course - in a progressively worse demeanor, by the time you'd get to the 600th kid, you'd tell him '46' and punch him in the spleen.

I have never had a issue with members, maybe I am just lucky to miss

If you see newbies being bashed, hit the support post button

And don't just post in the threads the dead horsed or whatever. Answer their question, and leave it at that. The thread will get locked soon enough

To add to all of this....Remember that every question that is asked no matter how dumb YOU might think it is, there are prob 10 others that were thinking of the same question. I became a member here soley due to the fact that when you asked a question you would get a legit and VERY timely answer. Lets make sure we dont steer new blu's away. We need every supporter we can get.

I have always enjoyed the fast response when I ask a question.

Thanks to all who have helped me.

Well how about instead we ask the Mod to place a sticky with some links I to the previous threats like "Newbie and have qustions....click here" and once in there we add links to some of the discussions we've had in the past for example grain (this has been discurssed over and over) and black bars issue ( I know we had a discurssion that was really interesting a few weeks ago and alot of info was thrown there) and maybe that way we can help avoid half of the threads that get posted regarding those topics.

You mean Blu-ray discs don't solve the black bar problem? I paid good money for my screen and I want it full.

I used to mod on a well-known comic book store's forums. On the Registration page, we had a HUGE, obvious window above the submit button, which said something to the effect of:

ATTENTION - If you are joining this site to ask about:
1.) Typical question #1
2.) Typical question #2

...and so on. There were 4. It had links underneath each to the sticky thread that answered each question (opened in new window). And some remark about using the search feature, which you were required to check a box next to in order to process the registration.

It's simple PHP to incorporate that--the window was actually another php page that the admins could easily edit with the latest FAQs. I highly recommend it, if it hasn't been done already. The bottom line is that new users can't join unless they've been pre-educated about the Search function and the top FAQs.

That said, anyone who bashes on n00bs is just trying to be elitist, IMHO. We can all get along. WickyWoo is right: just posting the does nothing to contribute and makes you look like a post *****. Let's welcome n00bs with open arms, but be friendly when pointing them to the Search function or the existing threads.

For all the posts I have made on people using the wrong video connection, I remember around 1994, when I purchased a high end 27" panasonic super flat CRT TV, I had my cable going through the VCR, and the VCR was hooked up via RF through channels 3 and 4 and thought the picture was fine. Though I did wonder what all thoes fancy S-video connections on the back were for. One day in 1997, I stumbled across an issue of Video at Blockbuster, and saw a full color page explaining how to hook up gear, what DVD was, and why we should not use composite and RF. We were all new at this one time or another.

Still, it is a real bummer, after showing a friend what HDTV is about, they give me Full Screen DVD for Christmas!
