Leos Carax, director of Holy Motors, has a new project : Annette.

The film is a musical, telling the tragic story of a stand-up comedian whose opera singer wife is deceased. He finds himself alone with his 2 years old daughter who has a surprising gift.

Adam Driver and Rooney Mara are confirmed to star in the movie, and even more, Rihanna is rumored to have small part too. Slated to shoot in locations around the world starting next spring, the music-driven film is being described as “the rise and fall of an intense love story."

For an arthouse project, this has a surprisingly big $15.5 million budget, and an extensive schedule, with filming to take place across fifteen weeks. But Carax getting a huge canvas to play on is a really promising prospect.

Annette is expected in 2018.
