A) Wrong Forum
and B) I consider both movies to be two parts of the same whole. Neither fully work without the other. Both are amazing masterpieces of comedy science fiction. |

Part II has energy and fun, but it's also really loud, noisy and chaotic.
Part III is slow and leisurely paced, but it's more well rounded in terms of story. Overall, even though it gets harder for me to watch it as the years go on, I'll take the energetic Part II over the relatively dull Part III. |

Part III, by FAR! PArt II is the most disappointing sequel of all times.
It's completely over the top, and just outright horrible. As incredible as the first one was, the 2nd was that in the opposite direction. I really like the 3rd one, as it is wonderfully romantic. Love the Jules Verne stuff, and doc falling in love, and the seriously terrible actress who played Marty's gf in Part II is hardly in it. |

For me, picking one over the other seems practically pointless (even though I voted in the poll).
Zemeckis & Gale designed both movies at the same time, and filmed both at the same time. It was all meant to be part of the whole, to complement the original film for those of us who had enjoyed it. The darkness & loudness and over-the-topness of Part 2 is complemented nicely with the more leisurely, laid-back, romantic and decidedly old-fashioned Part 3. That is why imho they were meant to be watched back-to-back for maximum enjoyment. Well, it's even better if you are able to watch all 3 movies together in one sitting. Obviously I'm a big BTTF fans who can't get enough of the BTTF universe - I'm currently playing the TellTale BTTF game on my iPad. It's not perfect, but I'm enjoying it a lot. BTW I happened to have enjoyed Elisabeth Shue in the sequels, though she also represented the most obvious break in casting continuity. I always found her excellent in almost any comedy she was in - also including Soapdish (1991). |
