Default Will 1080i TV play Blu-ray disc???

My tv will be able handle anything and including 1080i and below. However, blu-ray disc claim they ONLY are made for an output of 1080p.

Now my question is simple...if you have a TV that can only display a 1080i or below, and you purchase Sony's PS3 (which has blu-ry technology in it), if i were to hook it up through the HDMI connector and watch a blu-ray disc, would I be able to watch it.

*NOTE: PS3's website says this: "Copy-protected Blu-ray video discs can only output at 1080p using an HDMI cable".

Please help me with this one. I think everything would be ok, but I haven't found a website yet that actually says that it would work.

You'll be fine. Set the PS3 to output at 1080i and it will work great.

ok, you're confusing yourself a bit. 1080p can only be played over hdmi. not over component, s-video, etc. so a 1080i t.v. will be fine as well over hdmi.

as far as the discs themselves, they are encoded at 1080p. however, the player will downrez them to whatever resolution your t.v. is capable of.

Thanks to everyone responding. I was confusing myself. I figured everything would be fine...but I just didn't want to blow $600 on a PS3 and then find out blu-ray disc wouldn't play on it. That would be a waste of money.

Thanks again for the responds to my questioin.
