Default The Last Movie Star (2018)

The Last Movie Star

Written and Directed by
Adam Rifkin

https://a24films.com/films/the-last-movie-star
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5836316

Director: Adam Rifkin

Cast: Burt Reynolds, Ariel Winter, Clark Duke, and Chevy Chase

Quote:
Vic Edwards (Burt Reynolds) was the biggest star in Hollywood, a college football legend turned stunt double turned leading man. Now, in his eighties, he’s convinced by an old friend (Chevy Chase) to accept an invitation to receive a Lifetime Achievement award at a two-bit film festival in Nashville. The trip launches him on both a hilarious fish-out-of-water adventure and an unexpectedly poignant journey into his past.

That's one of the few instances of me being not excited about an A24 movie.

Edit: Of course it's not "Reynoldy", but as always it's unfortunately not possible to edit the thread title.

Looks heartwarming and harmless enough. I'm not sure that it really fits into my wheelhouse, though.

Try to go advanced and edit the thread title.

But the movie...... yawn. Looks like something we've seen a ton of times before. Even just last year with Sam Elliott in The Hero.

If I was a Burt Reynolds fan, I'd have cried (it's that good). Instead, it just made me feel very sad and compassionate about the whole thing.

He was a sex symbol, a celebrity, drove a memorable vehicle loved by many, yet he ended alone and somewhat rejected.

This scene from Smokey and the Bandit 3 truly feels like the end of the saga (I hated watching because it was nothing like 1 & 2 but this scene was gold).

By the way, not that I'm complaining, Ariel Winter barely wore any clothes. Huh, she's only 24 years old with that body.
