I was told about this by a work colleague a few weeks ago, BBC are releasing loads of classic material to BBC iPlayer for the BBC centenary, as well as other classic broadcasts. I was interested to see The Young Ones was shown as being added, and I was curious to see what versions and if any cuts had been made. So as an example I downloaded Oil (Series 1, Ep 2) to watch. I watched the scene in the basement where Vyvian gets the pick-axe thru the head. Its always been trimmed for some reason except on the last DVD release. The iPlayer version was intact, but then the entire speech where Rik talks to Neil about "Revolution" was cut. Further investigation shows the iPlayer episode clocked in at 29:02, the DVD I got shows it as 32:33!. Why would they bother cutting stuff? I was gonna download a few classic shows, but if they have been cut to buggery, i might give it a miss ... Last edited by BiggusDickus; 07-27-2022 at 09:11 PM. |
