Planned on going to see this but then I read about it being a "comedic" horror film so skipped it. Maybe if there was nothing else playing next weekend I might've gone to a matinee but there are 4(!) movies opening this weekend that I want to see so this one will have to wait for a cheap blind buy on Blu-ray (maybe). Used to be a time when Shyamalan films were a big deal but now they're not even advertising his name anymore.

Now we just need The Village to be released on Blu-ray.

Yeah, still waiting for it. First time in the theatre I was blown away by the Village.
Regarding the Visit: I'm in.

Really glad this film did well this weekend at the BO. I was rooting for Shyamalan to get another hit. Would've been a shame if Hollywood was ready to just write him off. Loved Signs & Unbreakable, so I knew he had talent.

It has some genuinely creepy/scary moments. There is a dark comedy aspect too, but i certainly wouldn't call it a comedy horror. More people screamed at my viewing than any other horror film I've seen

BRAVO M. Knight, BRAVO!

I wasn't sure what to expect after the last few films M. Knight did, but after seeing the trailer, I was certainly curious. Let me say, I was NOT disappointed.

This this NOT the scariest film ever, but it had JUST enough thrills and chills to keep me on the edge of my seat a few times. It also had the perfect blend of humor to make this an enjoyable experience all around.

Sure, I could easily pick it apart and complain about the whole plot being a short story bloated into a feature length film with a few unnecessary "filler" scenes, but seeing as how I enjoyed everything else....I'm forgiving.

I hand't had THIS much fun in a while....so it was completely worth my ticket price and I WILL be adding this to my personal collection. Can't wait.

Good to hear positive feedback on this. I will be waiting to watch this at home, alone, in the dark. A theater viewing does sound like fun though.

Default Horror?

I was disappointed. Having photographed several important horror films I'm always interested in seeing how these films work.
[Show spoiler]I didn't for a moment buy the idea that a mother would send her children off to parents she fought with and gad not seen for many years. Using the youthful filmmaker gimmick was too conscious. The kids were too precocious.
The grandparents having sundowners syndrome is a real thing and not necessary to use as an excuse for odd behavior. That made the grandparents sad instead of threatening.

The use of inferior camera technology was unnecessary. The image was soft in low light level scenes.
[Show spoiler]I always felt I was being conned instead of The Sixth Sense and The Other.
If I were teaching a class on horror filmmaking I would use this as s visual text of what not to do. Way too many opportunities not advantaged. Too bad. A master filmmaker who gas lost his way.

Obviously, not seen it. I read enough of your comments to see that you gave away plot points though. Fix your post so you don't spoil it the same for others. It's a five day old movie, dude.

Default Dude

I'm a professional filmmaker. If you're not interested I'll stop posting, dude. I just saved you money in a film that's not worth your time if you truly love real horror films. This is an attempt to emulate reality TV. Cheesy, dude.

I added the spoiler tags for you. It's a tricky issue that, as one of the site's disc reviewers, I have had to learn to live with.

BTW, I love your work with John Badham, especially "Drop Zone".

Default Spoikers

I said nothing that was not in the Fandango synopsis.
Maybe I shouldn't blog here. I love your site so much because of your thoughtful analysis of our work. I'm so disappointed in this filmmaker. He's far better than what he's produced here. I went to see it because I'm preparing to photograph another sequel to a legacy horror film I did years ago.
If I sounded pretentious it's only because I thought I was communicating with serious film people because of the quality of your site.
Thank you for the John Badham comment. I did three films with John. He's a dear friend that I'm bugging to start another project.
Maybe you should remove me. I wasn't aware of the level of bloggers. I was hoping I had something to contribute.
I'm very accessible to anyone and really have never been called pretentious.
Best regards.
