I'm anxiously awaiting Capaldi... but if I were thinking towards the future... I still would like to see Robert Carlyle. After finding out he was in the running a couple of choices ago, maybe the timing will be right after Capaldi has his several years run in the role.

Eh? Any basis for that? If that were true then he wouldn't even see a full series out would he? Sorry, but that it just plain stupid. Back it up or retract.

To be honest... nothing would surprise me... but those "rumors" read like random fan meanderings without any basis.
Lots of actors sign year-to-year contracts, especially on their first year of a show. It wouldn't be a huge surprise if this was a planned one-year thing and then they go in another direction... it might even be ok for them to do that. It's a little dangerous, though, if Capaldi was planned to be a one-year-wonder but developed a fan following once the episodes aired and caused a backlash... so it would be a big risk to take. I hope it isn't true, because I think he will do well and I'm anxious to see him. I'm ok with fan-wishing for the next Doctor, though, because most of the Doctors don't go but a few years before they are off (historically speaking)... so it's fine to enjoy the current actor while speculating about the next one. Not too many shows you can enjoy in that way actually. In the olden Days of Who... they did have regenerations before the end of series before... and part of me wishes they would do that again. I'm not wishing against Capaldi... but for any of the recent Doctors, once they knew they were going to change, it would be dramatic to try and surprise folk by making the switch mid-series. IT takes a risk, but if it works for the story it can make for a good regeneration story. I, for one, was kind of hoping one day for a true "Next Doctor" story... where we get a multi-Doctor team-up with a Doctor we haven't seen before... and we don't know it until we get to the end of the story and find out the current Doctor regenerates into that one. I don't have an entire story in my head... but I have seeds of a good idea of how that might work where the current Doctor finds and rescues someone who turns out to be the next Doctor's companion... the Doctor himself would suspect something, but not be entirely sure... and we get to the end of the story where the current Doctor has to sacrifice himself somehow to save everyone... then at some point later in the series we get to see how the companion swap happens too. |

At this point I don't think they have to worry about limited regenerations. I'm not wishing anything bad for Capaldi I'd welcome a 5-6 year run but you know its the beauty of the beast that the Doctor changes. Its bound to happen.

Given that the Express article refers to the 30th Anniversary I'm not sure I can take the article too seriously; it sounds like the usual gutter press running made up stories purely to provoke a response.
Time will tell of course, thanks for posting the links. Personally I'd be disappointed if PC left after a year. A new Doctor every (roughly) 4 years is ideal. I never want to see a female Doctor. Nothing sexist in that at all, but the Doctor is male. End of story. |

This rumour was debunked several weeks, if not months, ago.
It's true that Capaldi is signed onto a year-by-year contract, but that doesn't mean he's only doing one year, he's a fan for crying out loud and to play the Doctor has been a lifelong dream. Steven Moffat and the BBC wouldn't hire him if he only did one series, because they and we don't want a repeat of Ecclestone. Also it may mean we have him for longer than Smith and Tennant (who were signed to a 3-year/series contract) as doing it year-by-year will allow Capaldi to decide when he leaves, rather than given a contract deadline. Suffice to say don't believe anything unless I directly comes from the BBC and especially don't believe it if it comes from the Mirror. ![]() |
