You always go back to what you know best
![]() Paramount Pictures is plotting a return to organized crime for Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro. Studio has set Steve Zaillian to adapt "I Heard You Paint Houses," the book about the mob assassin who many believe was involved in the death of Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa. Scorsese is attached to direct. De Niro will play Frank "the Irishman" Sheeran, who is reputed to have carried out more than 25 mob murders. Pic will be produced by Scorsese and Tribeca partners De Niro and Jane Rosenthal. Project landed at Paramount through the overall deal that the studio has with Scorsese’s Sikelia Prods. Pic’s title refers to mob slang for contract killings, and the resulting blood splatter on walls and floors. Book was written by Charles Brandt, who befriended Sheeran shortly before the latter’s death in 2003. Among the crimes Sheeran confessed to Brandt, according to the 2004 book, was the killing and dismemberment of Hoffa, carried out on orders from mob boss Russell Bufalino. Fine, he's a great actor.
![]() But can Scorsese please take a break from casting him in lead roles? This is getting ridiculous. From Gangs of New York to Aviator to Departed, he's already been a "great actor" in too many Scorsese films in recent years. Believe it or not other actors are greater. |

Scorsese probably has the magic to turn De Niro back to actually acting like he gives a darn. If he fails to impress with this movie, he's done.

You put Scorsese at the helm of anything starring any of the guys we've mentioned, and it will be better than a majority of stuff around, guaranteed. Great directors champion great performances, and Marty knows what he's doing. With all due respect, Joe Avnet does not...yet. That's probably why Righteous Kill underdelivered. That, and a routine, paint-by-numbers screenplay. We should have just left these two at "Heat". That was a fitting face-off for DeNiro and Pacino...again, because they were in capable hands. Just my opinion. |

How there is any room for Scorsese to do this at this point is beyond me, but here's the latest:
Source The 67-year-old movie maker was at the Berlin film festival for the premiere Saturday of his latest picture "Shutter Island," his fourth collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio. "Bob De Niro (and I) are talking about something that has to do with that world," Scorsese told reporters after a press screening of Shutter Island, where the audience reaction was decidedly muted. "There's no doubt about that. We're working on something like that, but it's from the vantage point of older men looking back, none of this running around stuff." Rumors that Scorsese may be reviving one of film's most successful collaborations have been rife for years, as fans look back with nostalgia to classics such as "Raging Bull," "Taxi Driver" and "Cape Fear." The Hollywood heavyweights last worked together on "Casino" in 1995. |

I'm down.
With the right script and director, anything is possible for any great actor at any age. I also read somewhere that Taxi Driver might be re-made or something (with DeNiro doing a cameo)... don't know what to think about that. But again, with the right script and director, anything is possible. Now, if we can only get Mean Streets, King of Comedy and Cape Fear on Blu-ray, I'll be happy. |
