Really. Judging by the reviews, I was expecting a nasty BD conversion... I must say the PQ is remarkable - given the low production of the movie (bad cinematography, budget: 19 millions of dollars) - no dirt, no noise, crisp and clear image.

Buy it! Sony did a good job.

Crystal-clear. No hair, dirt or speckles. Just a thin layer of grain in some scenes, but that comes from the way it has been shot.
A great BD conversion.

Any more feedback?

I watched the original Universal Soldier the other day, and that too looks amazing! It's really fun to see when older catalogue titles get a good treatment.

I agree about the first one. Universal Soldier original is one of the blu's I show to friends who thing Blu-ray isn't better than dvd... they see a below par movie and can't believe how good it looks/sounds.

I have never seen US Returns so I will have to check it out sometime... I doubt I will buy it though. I am kind of picky on what I buy.

I use Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey for that. It's by no means a below par movie (in my opinion it's the best sci-fi movie ever made), but it shows what can be done with a movie that's over 30 years old. It's one of the best Blu-ray's I have actually.

As for Universal Soldier: The Return you should rent it. It has it's moments, but compared to the first one it's just lame...

I can't wait for the next Universal Soldier film, entitled "Universal Soldiers: The Next Generation". And the best thing about it: Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren will be facing off against each other once again!!

But it's unclear as to whether or not the next film will be released theatrically or direct-to-DVD and Blu-ray.

Yes, I am. I purchased The Return BD only 2 days ago. The reviewers missed the point with this. It's a great BD conversion.

The Return only costs 20 bucks on Amazon.

Never saw either of the movies on BD. I put the first one in my queue and Netflix is shipping it today. I'll squeeze it in before September rolls around!

I have the DVD to compare against as well and there really isn't, it's a HUGE leap up from the DVD. I love both Unisol movies with Van Damme and really am looking forward to the next one

Yeah, I'm looking for that and "The Expendibles" to get me my testosterone action fix soon. I'm so dissapointed in the way action stars are now. What ever happened to the Arnold/Stallone/Van Damme type action star who actually was in great physical shape, did their own stuff a lot of the time and stuck to doing movies that they were good at (aka blowing sh!t up). Now it's this Liam Nissan/Matt Damon hyper active camera to hide that I can't physically do crap, action movies

. Makes me sad. Vin Diesel had a shot at filling those shoes but made some stupid career moves. The Rock did too. His first few action movies were phenominally fun, but then he wanted to be taken more "seriously" and ditched the roles he was actually good at (hitting people in the face)

Have you noticed how The Return BD picture quality is so crisp and clear (no dirt or distracting grain)? I know, it's just a 10 years old movie... relatively "new". Fantastic PQ, anyway.

Don't expect Luc (JCVD) as being the lead character for all the third US movie, he will be mainly featured in the second part.
