Title says it all really - I'm thinking of stunning transfers of great films.
![]() Patton should be a contender, but from the reviews the transfer lets it down. |

Yeah, why not.
I was thinking of older movies, but not really worried as long as they are damn good (in terms of movie quality and transfer). |

Some good choices there, but do they all have great Blu-ray transfers?

Nice, I really want a U.S. release I don't really like the Hong Kong release. It just seems really sketchy to me, the Blu-Ray box is actually black, the back cover seems to be poorly constructed, and it just seems sketchy to me, can't really explain it.! ahah Probably just me being weird, but whatever. Can't wait for a U.S. release! (Hope it gets either the french or Canadian cover)

The Pacific and Band of Brothers look great. I thought the "The Bridge on the River Kwai" had a good transfer. Can't give an opinion on Pearl Harbor though, but the reviewer gave it a 5.0, but the audio got a lower score. IIRC

I just went through the list of WWII films on this site and I think I own most of them (and the ones I didn't own and wanted to own I just ordered today). Thanks for asking because this enabled me to find some I didn't own yet!
![]() ![]() The Thin Red Line Saving Private Ryan Band of Brothers The Pacific Pearl Harbor (but it's crappy history) Tora! Tora! Tora! (much, much better than the above) Valkyrie Patton Letters from Iwo Jima U571 The Bridge on the River Kwai Australia (okay if you google and search for information on the factual aerial attacks the Japanese made in Australia) Defiance Flags of Our Fathers The Dirty Dozen (average video quality) Casablanca Enemy at the Gates The Reader The Longest Day Atonement A Bridge Too Far Windtalkers Army of Shadows Das Boot Battle of Britain Kelly's Heroes/Where Eagles Dare City of Life and Death Black Book Battle of the Bulge Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence The Great Raid Life is Beautiful Miracle at St. Anna (I wouldn't own it so I'll leave that decision for you to make) The English Patient Au Revoir Les Enfants South Pacific (musical set in WWII in obvious place) The Counterfeiters The Guns of Navarone The Boy in the Striped Pajamas Force 10 from Navarone (haven't decided if I want to own this one) The Diary of Anne Frank The Caine Mutiny Patton Twelve O'Clock High The Tuskegee Airmen (I can't wait for this release on BD) A Soldier's Story Colditz (this is supposedly in some member collections but I haven't read a review of the PQ & SQ) Winter in Wartime (I just ordered this) Eagles over London (average PQ & SQ so this is a no sale for me) Age of Heroes (to be release on BD) The Army of Crime (I just ordered this from UK) Glorious 39 (just ordered) Max Manus: Man of War Adam Resurrected (I'll pass on this one) The Battle of the River Plate (if you like naval sea battles, this is awesome) The Tin Drum (the version I want w/English subtitles not out yet) Saints and Soldiers (okay if you excuse the religious overtones) Cross of Iron The Pianist Eichmann (I haven't decided about owning this one) Hart's War The Burmese Harp Everyman's War (when almost 1/2 of people on Amazon-Germany pan this film I will pass) The Downfall of Berlin: Anonyma The Holocaust (was supposed to come out in 2010 w/English soundtrack & dutch subtitles but it hasn't been released yet) The Secret of Santa Vittoria Female Agents Triple Cross (has only bad reviews on Amazon-Germany) Only the Brave The Final Countdown (SciFi meets WWII) Downfall Katyn Escape to Athena Ice Cold in Alex The Cruel Sea Inglorious Bastards (excellent fictional WWII story) Battle Under Orion (thinking about this one at the moment for possible purchase) Went The Day Well? The Dam Busters Days of Glory Leningrad (?) Fortress of War The Edge of Love (just ordered) Flame and Citron The Winds of War (another one which was supposed to be released in 2010 but wasn't) Warbirds (SciFi in WWII but No Thanks) Attack on Leningrad (no one seems to own this one on BD) The Inglorious Bastards (1978) (has average PQ & SQ so I'll pass) What War May Bring Brother's War (just ordered) |
