Default TV advertising

I've been reading all kinds of "Blu Ray vs HD DVD" polls, posts, articles, etc... (as I'm sure you all have as well)... I am very PRO Blu Ray but I wondered if anyone has seen any commercials on TV yet? I was watching football yesterday and they showed ads for a couple movies that I know are also gonna be available on BD but they didn't mention that at all. Then I saw a commercial for You, Me and Dupree and they put a big "Also available on HD DVD"... it makes me worry a little. Blu Ray people need to put some $ into advertising. Especially during the holiday shopping season. Any thoughts?

I saw the Blu-ray and HD DVD symbols on the MI3 ads and they said right at the end "Also available in HD" like an afterthought.
Over the next several months the promotions will begin. By Superbowl time there will be a million PS3 users in North America and if any movie is advertised as being available on Blu-ray or any Blu-ray spots air, a million people will go "Cool I have that on my PS3."

A lot of my friends are saying "why do you want Blu Ray when you already have all these DVD's?" Of course they said that when I had "all those vhs tapes too"... anyway, I hope you're right. I think if studio support stay where it's at, this war could be won in the next six months. (With proper marketing)

I've actually seen a lot more Blu-Ray ads than HD-DVD ads. Probably depends on the market and what you're watching. They've been doing an ad blitz on the High-Def channels where I live (Philadelphia area).

so true, I know for example my mom is a pretty big dvd collector but she still hasn't replaced the vhs versions of movies she has (which is about 30-40 titles) And there are alot of people out there like this. Yes they can appreciate the quality difference, but is it enough for them to replace their existing libraries? I think maybe only the "enthusiast" , "elitist" types like us who will replace their entire or atleast most of their current DVD collections with HD discs be it BD or HDDVD. For me, If it's a movie I don't quite care for that I own such as Godzilla-Mathew Broderick,Gossip, scary movie, etc. or If it's something I don't see ever going to HD such as comedy specials etc than those will remain SD aside from that my future purchases are going to be BD/HDDVD

for me, all new purchases will be BD. i'll replace a handful of my current titles such as LOTR, fight club, usual suspects, and a host of other eye candy films. otherwise, i'll just wait until i can purchase them in bulk for cheap and that is only if i enjoyed the film.

I have been seeing ads specifically for Blu-ray on Discovery HD quite frequently for the past few nights actually, and I've seen the ad for the PS3 at least 4 or 5 times. Also, I've been seeing 'available on Blu-ray' ads for months already for certain titles.

I really don't think it's all about replacing existing titles as much as it is about purchasing new titles. I don't plan on replacing all of my DVD titles with Blu-ray releases at all. There are only certain must haves that I would even consider purchasing again.

I've been seeing TV DVD ads from time to time adding the "also available on Blu-ray" at the end for a couple of months now, they just don't scream it, so I've noticed cus I was looking for it. I've seen just a couple with HD-DVD too. (Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough for those )

I basically stopped (or reduced) buying DVDs about a year ago or more, certainly big blockbuster movies that I know will eventually go into High Definition. (I've also practically stopped going to bad (average) theater presentations (I still go to IMAX), as with Blu, a Home theater can be a much nicer setting these days.) I buy on DVD mostly programs shot or edited on NTSC or PAL videotape, and things that took so long to get on DVD, they will surely take as long to come out on High Definition. In the meantime my "16mm" DVD collection gets its use

I guess I've just missed the Blu-Ray ads then. I'll keep my eyes peeled. This whole "war" is really interesting. I've read about the possibility of a hybrid player, but personally, I'd rather see Blu Ray win before those ever come to market. To quote "The Highlander" ... "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE"...
