Default Pan Am

This new television show opens in 1963. It's lightweight, but I think it's a good show. It's available for free streaming at this site:

http://beta.abc.go.com/shows/pan-am

Plane travel was different then. Men wore suits and women wore dresses. No doubt there are things that they get wrong, but overall I think there are good period recreations in this for a TV program.

In terms of the performers, I am so far liking "Colette," played by French
Canadian actress Karine Vanasse.

Is anyone else watching this? If not, I recommend giving it a try. It is less
weighted with the stress and storms often found in Mad Men--which is a show I also like....

I watched the first 2 episodes back to back, I dunno, It was good, but wasn't omg I cannot wait for the next episode good like, say "The Walking Dead". I checked it out on imdb today, and Pan Am has a 6.8 score, pretty much where i expected it to be.

I've caught up on all three episodes, and this is turning out to be a solid show. Not amazing or anything, but a show I'd probably keep up with. It functions as an effective chaser to 'Mad Men' in terms of getting your '60s vibe fix. Unlike 'The Playboy Club' the writers here know what their show is and aren't muddying it with dense, left-field subplots.

So far after 3 episodes, I am having fun with the show. I really like the 4 female lead team, they seem to be forming a good group to make stories around and the actress are doing a good job. I am not sure how far they can go with the concept but I will be watching

Is there a rumor going around that this show is receiving the axe?

Well the ratings aren't that great and the show is getting worse in many people's eyes. Its also got the same timeslot as The Good Wife. Not a "good' idea there.

I agree that the show seems to be running out of steam. I think the plot vehicle of putting in flashbacks now of some of the girls' past (Ricci's was this week) is somewhat gimmicky. Then it still tries to play this other running parallel plot point of Kate being this secret agent. It's just becoming convoluted and the "missions" are lacking and I just don't buy into her character doing something like this. It teeters as simply a device for soap opera drama, especially with her falling in love with the "mark".

So, I dunno...it's more of a "fluff" piece show now and I'm trying to give it a chance. I think Collette is the strongest and most interesting character to me and Karine Vanasse I can see going places in her career. But based on the upcoming episodes tease, I think it's still stearing off course. I don't see me staying with it much longer...

It's too bad, I actually enjoy this show for what it is a bit cheesy but fun, oh well!

As for Karine Vanasse, she is from my home province, I hope she as a good career in Hollywood.

Though its getting quite disparate with its individual plots, that's not really a bad thing for me. What else is the show to do, really; there's a whole crew that the show's about. I'd actually rather they fracture it a little more each episode instead of focusing namely on one member per episode - though that's probably an expository measure taken to introduce each castmember before going a fuller ensemble route in later eps.

That should eventually lead to more focus from these storylines (Maggie's 'spy' sideplot being chief among them), and a cleaner show. But I'm still watching.

Considering this thread has been quiet for a month...who else besides me has given up on the show. I tried watching the last one after the 2 or 3 week hiatus I think it was....and 10 minutes into it, I saw that it was not improving from the direction it's been going in. So I've called it quits.

Too soap opera-y and the plot devices of mixing in real events just seems forced and a lazy excuse for an episode topic. The characters have just become a pretty face to follow and not someone we have an invested relationship with nor original. Oh well...clears up a slot on my DVR.

I love all things 60's. Mad Men is one of my favorite shows around. I need to start this, because my mom absolutely loves it. Maybe one day while my girlfriend is at work.
