Sadly seemingly not going by the UK DCP:-
T2_Trainspotti_FTR_F_EN-XX_INT_51_2K_SPE_20170118_MPS_IOP_OV As Rewak says above there's a lot of optical zoom ups present which Boyle must've opted for in the edit but not shot for. That's assuming it's not deliberate, given the film's playful dalliances with everything from Snapchat filters to 16mm. Sadly the noise heavy close-ups are usually in very dark scenes, including a key dialogue scene toward the finale involving two characters separated by a wall in a dark room with heavy blue and green lighting. I can't see this 4K release garnering particularly good reviews. No Atmos on the DCP either so if it's on the 4K version it'll be remixed, maybe not even by Boyle's team :-/ I may get it IF it includes a standard blu ray. |

'That's a WRAP on the eagerly awaited new Danny Boyle film, Trainspotting 2.
One of the most enjoyable (and toughest) shoots we have been on, ever. The job was set up and run by legendary (and nicest man in show business) DIT Dan Carling and we helped out with the second unit and some additional work on the main unit. . A visually stunning film, shot by Anthony Dod Mantle using Alexa XT's shooting Arriraw. And a couple of very exciting prototype cameras that unfortunately can't be talked about (yet).' if its finished at 4k could be a 4k movie ![]() |

On top of that, it would be absolutely rediculous to film with such high quality cameras at high resolution and then downscale for the finish at 2k. Makes no sense. Hopefully we see more 4k finishes. |

Caught this over the weekend and while it doesn't match the original (and to be fair, it's doesn't really try, it's a new story) it's great catching up with these characters. Amazing soundtrack too.
Like most digital Danny Boyle films, he uses a range of cameras so there were some banding issues on scenes where they have clearly used small cams to get the shot. Shouldn't make a huge difference but those expecting a flawless transfer in a film about ex-junkies, psychos and pimps in Edinurgh might want to beware. |

The clips from the original movie that are used in this sequel looked incredibly pristine with a tight grain structure and as much detail as you can realistically expect. One would assume this means the original was given a fresh remaster, probably at 4K. Hopefully we can expect a 4K release of the first film soon...

That encode was a good few years old, no doubt taken from the substandard UK blu ray complete with it's underwhelming sound mix. Park Circus are known for not caring. Their recent "Blue Velvet" re-release was completely missing surround channels!??? Sadly it seems the only current way to hear "Trainspotting"'s original theatrical uncompressed mix is via a 35mm Dolby Digital encoded print, as assuming the Criterion Laserdisc has some compression and the US DTS HD 5.1. blu release uses the American re-voiced audio. It's a shame. I recall this sounding magnificent and dynamic in Dolby Digital back in the day, in a way the DCP re-release and the UK blu get nowhere near. I saw it theatrically around five times. The moment when Sick-Boy snaps a biscuit during Mark's cold-turkey sequence sounded sensational as did the thumping bass and surrounds on the Volcano nightclub opening. Let's hope that 2K scan is matched by a non-compressed 5.1. mix finally available with the original audio. |
